Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

These layoffs come at the worst possible moment

Just look around this board and you'll see that all oil companies are currently laying off people in large numbers. That means that we are screwed when it comes to finding a new job. There will be so many unemployed in our industry and so few jobs available.

We'll be either forced to change industries or take jobs significantly under our usual pay grade. Either way - as I already said - we are screwed.

Make sure you vote accordingly in November if you are a US citizen. Please try to understand who is going to support you during the unprecedented crisis like this? We don’t want government hand out forever. Who have your interest in mind when you need it the most...things like healthcare (?) and Unemployment benefits during this crisis?

Enhanced unemployment expires at the end of July. From 1,200 a week back to 500. Can’t feed the family on 500.

To be honest this might be a blessing in disguise. The unemployment benefits are good at least for now and hope companies will give out good packages. This is the time to retrain yourselves and get out of this dying industry and never look back. The boom bust cycles are getting shorter and you don’t want to live through this every few years. “Run forest run” if you are capable ...
