Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

So much this!

We are not losing workers because we are losing work.

That’s the lie the ivory tower wants you to believe.

We are losing workers because executive keep making costly mistakes, and they need to decrease employment costs to pay for them.

The survivors are forced to cover the work of their laid off peers.

They do the extra work, because of the constant threat of being laid off next is always looming.

They force themselves to work insane hours, and sacrifice their entire life for a corporation that doesn’t give a c-ap about them, and will smile as they lay them off.

Bumped from @dui+15iqssTW, perfectly stated!

activist investor has nothing to do with att incompetence they just want the dividend and stock price to go up. the layoffs are in att dna and will never stop no matter how good the company is doing. they use it as a management tool because they really don't have managers they just have reporters that do spreadsheets.

The activist invester did not cause us to buy DTV or make other questionable decisions, but it absolutely has something to do with the plans for layoffs and reorganzing that were announced in Fall 2019.

When you say this:
"
We are not losing workers because we are losing work.

That’s the lie the ivory tower wants you to believe.

We are losing workers because executive keep making costly mistakes, and they need to decrease employment costs to pay for them.
"

It means we're losing customers.

When we lose customers it means we lose work.
And when we lose work it means we don't need as many people doing the work that's left.

The obedient will stay working under threat, I agree with that piece of what you say.

you are completely being lied to if you think any activists investor had anything to do with the downfall of this company.

@jle

You mean this excerpt from a NYT article (https://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/14/technology/gearing-up-for-the-cloud-att-tells-its-workers-adapt-or-else.html):

Mr. Stephenson declined to project how many workers he might have by 2020, when the cloud-based system is supposed to be fully in place. One thing about cutting people in an aging work force, he noted, is that “demography is on our side.” Other senior executives say shrinking the work force by 30 percent is not out of the question.

You are completely naive if you think the Elliot Mgt getting involved had nothing to do with it....they are running the sh– show. Check the track record of Luczo (cut >50% of the Seagate staff).....while increasing revenues and reducing costs, reducing sites, etc.

"should have/could have" instead of "should of/could of"

For some of us who remember the inception of workforce 2020, we were told significant reduction in total number of employees' by EOY 2020. They are just completing that goal. I believe this was in the 2014 or 2015 time frame.

the activists investor had nothing to do with it he just pounced on it when it was at its weakest point and could get the best bang for the buck. att should of never bought dtv or time warner. they could of developed a uverse app that runs on roku, apple tv, or whatever device ( they had the infamous ATT labs where all the phd's hang out after all ) and they could of ran with that but instead the megalomaniacs had to buy the world. that was the stray that broke the camels back before then they should of never allowed sbc to buy all the baby bells. all those made life miserable for thousands and just made randy and stankey rich and now all the other greed mongers are going to get their share while the company self destructs.

This all started with the Activist investors (Elliot Mgt) getting involved last year (4Q19). They immediately appointed Stephen Luczo to the AT&T board (effective 11/1 I think).....this was part of the 'deal'. They also appointed an external advisor to cut costs (former Clearwire CEO). Do a search on Luczo's background (via Wikipedia).....he has an excellent track record with Seagate (Revenues up, costs down)....but it included cutting employees by 50% over 2-3 years. This is the playbook. They are also prioritizing on profitable products/services and will no longer invest (or need employees) for many of these. Lastly, they are outsourcing alot of the work...including my organization.
