This morning IBM sent a communication stating that IBM will not tolerate any type of discrimination.
FAKE news! IBM keeps on discriminating t older employees.

someone told me IBM made the RA based on how long you have been in IBM >15
total nonsense. surrounded by people with much far more years of service.
And how many of those are "walking dead" that have been RA'd but are not telling anybody yet?

I've told my children to stay away from IBM at all costs....its not a good place to work or make a career.
I can see both sides of it. Some WFH older employees are at their desk from 8-5, working as hard as they can, acquiring new skills and truly contributing.Others are out running errands, going to appointments, having long lunches with friends, and every time you Slack them and they’re late too answer, they have an excuse. I’ve watched it for years and have been disgusted by the unfairness of it all. I agree that some peopLe had to go. But rather than make informed strategic choices, IBM looked at divisions and length of employment. Guess what, you mo–ns? You laid off a LOT of really good people who could have been reassigned, and you kept the lazy dolts who are playing you. Here’s an idea: Take a look at the ones who haven’t received a decent raise in the past few years. If they’re not screaming about it, it’s because they’re giving you a lot less than you’re paying for. Sorry to see IBM in this long, lingering death spiral. But when you pay ridiculous sums to execs while you’re laying off workers, you need to ask yourself just who hired those workers that you’ve discovered you no longer need. What poor business planning created the situation? Those decision makers should be the ones to get the axe.
Remember 'respect for the individual' ?
@blu+15fOg6cB : You talk as if you will not get old! Then you will whine when you get unceremoniously kicked off or thrown out!
someone told me IBM made the RA based on how long you have been in IBM >15 years bye bye , your Band (too high bye bye), and non strategic platforms - whatever that is as i am still looking for a strategy. you look at people that were canned and then look at the structure above you wonder how IBM makes $$$ there seems to be more managers / execs, VP than actual people doing work. 1 line manager for each 8 people then there are 3- 6 managers above them.
@1wmh+15fOg6cB : IBM laid off so many in favor H1B in the past.. Its ridiculous!
@zxh+15fOg6cB Millenials will far more agile! They will not work for one company for 20+ years! 2 years and change to a new one! Who cares, make money and move on!
@pfb+15fOg6cB what a shameful comment. How dare you insinuate that older employees are less valuable. The only older employees who aren’t valuable are the ones who are letter band execs and the board, all of whom are past their prime and out of touch with our clients!
Why do old people always like to complain and blame everyone else?
Even the analysts are in the dark. The blow back will be tough

To those spamming the forum with Age Discrimination, please grow up. What do you expect IBM to do? Keep you employed while it can find cheaper labor within the US and outside? It is called free-market where skills and low-cost is prime. If you had a business, you are likely to do the same.
Those who argue loyalty and expect IBM to keep them forever no matter what happens in the world are like baby boomers who're still in denial about the pension crisis. Where will the money come from? I worked for IBM where many older employees did almost nothing but drink coffee/tea, complain about politics and write about a line of code per week. This isn't to generalise; there are many who do actual work and contribute but IBM does have a problem with life-long employees who will never find alternatives outside IBM in an ever changing world.
This isn't a criticism but advice. Learn -> learn -> practice -> be competitive. Don't make age excuses and don't expect to retire!
When I joined many years ago everyone gave their lives to the company. The company paid you back with full employment, first-class respectful treatment, unlimited opportunity, the knowledge that you worked for the greatest company in the world, excellent benefits including pension. IBM took all that away but still expects workers to be as loyal as ever. You must be a sociopath to be an IBM exec.
I had a family member pass suddenly out of state. 3 days after returned told to leave even after I told VP the circumstances. Heartless. 60s and no place to go. Hope he and others all get to dance with Satan.
Wish IBM would be required to post the percentage of how many employees (over the past 20 years) have actually retired at 65. I gave my life to IBM. All 1 and 2+ performance reviews. Took a transfer to appease them. Daughter going off to college in the Fall. Spouse did not want to go back to work due to health issues, but there's no other alternative. I'm 61 and we need to close the gap somehow. Heartless corporation. Millenials need to seek employment with other tech giants when they graduate from college!
