Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Brace yourself for additiional stores closures and lay offs

There's no question that the upcoming earnings report is going to be awful, as the vast majority of the company's stores were closed for most of the period, which roughly corresponds to the months of March, April, and May. Moreover, Bed Bath & Beyond was barely profitable in the first quarter.

Thank you sooo much for taking the time to help me. At this point I think I’ll just have to take that position so at least I still have a job and look for another. I wish you well and appreciate you.

Melissa...Hi...so if you don’t take the PT position they are offering then technically you are “denying” work and you can’t collect unemployment. I doubt the store is discriminating against you. That’s a powerful word and this is just an unfortunate pandemic situation where downsizing may be inevitable for the company. I don’t know what volume your store is, how many FT associates are allowed and what your availability is like. Let’s just assume you are a top ranked associate but so were a few others... chances are the SM had to make a difficult decision based on what they will be allowed to have for their FT ratio. Just do what’s right for yourself, even if that’s take the PT for now and pick up another PT somewhere else. Or just actively look while you’re still working PT for bed bath.

Thank you so much for responding. I’m still collecting unemployment. They can’t promise if they can bring me back FT again. If I don’t take PT position then they can say I didn’t wanna come back so therefore I can’t collect unemployment right? The other weird thing is all the FTs are back to their regular schedule except me. I’m the one who’s been longer so i don’t understand. I’ve been performing really well that all my yearly reviews are great so why me? I almost feel like somethings up and maybe discriminating me? I’m not sure!

Melissa..what do YOU want to do? Are you collecting unemployment? Most states will let you earn a certain amount before deducting your earnings. Each state is different. Have you asked to come back full time?

Hi guys so I’m still furloughed and I’ve been working for the company for about 13 years now and I’ve been working FT. But now they are asking me to come back as a PT employee. Should I take it or no? Pls help me, I don’t know what to do. It’s very unfair but I’m not sure if I have any options.

So true, came back for a week and back out no one wants to take responsibility in giving the bad news, they like keeping associates waiting on decisions. people that are called back and have babysitters issue etc were told to go on leave and call hotline for approval...otherwise loose job!

Where havent people been called back yet? New Jersey??

The only people not back are ones that have daycare/transportation issues, immunity issues, or people who work hours we are still closed (Ex a 5-9PM shift)

2nd fiscal quarter results will be even worse. Those on the inside of Bed Bath know BBBY's second busiest season is College. With many higher learning institutions wavering back and forth as to opening campuses or not, the college cash and carry and pack n hold business is lost.

Don’t assume everyone is “hoping” to be called back. I for one am not waiting but I will say it isn’t that easy to find something right now that can cover personal expenses. Are there jobs out there? Yes. Will I die if bed bath doesn’t call me back? Of course not. Point is not everyone can just go to part time hours or wants to job hop to another retail company. It takes time and the bigger message was that the Company really just needs to part ways with those they no longer feel they need.

Hopes? Seriously? Why hope to be called back to this dreadful company when there are so many opportunities right now to move on? For those hoping to be called back and you do just how long do you think it will last before you are either laid off or the the company goes belly up? I can't believe people who are furloughed are waiting to be called back instead of getting a better job at a much better company.

They can have my job. It s—s more than it ever did. Still have the lazy managers doing as little as possible even with a skeleton crew

Fully expecting to be laid off. At this point what’s the point of extending everyone that’s still waiting to return. Stop dangling the hopes of returning and just do it.
