Here is what's happening. Yes! You were sent the termination email because you were terminated. The employees who got the "going forward emails" have been saying thanks but no thank you. A great majority are not coming back or come back for a few days and then quit becsuse of the workload. Many of the leads, supervisors in the store I work for took the severance. Many associates said no to coming. Now they are scrambling to get people to work. Managers are now saying...ooops it's was a mistake, you're still employed. And there you have it.

A lot things happen during this time. Yes, some got the call back after the fact they tiled them they were not going forward. Macy's is screwed very bad. They played off people that had the knowledge and kept dumb ones; just because they were the favorites from the VPSM. Not nice at all, they will have double the work.
Good luck to you JG and to all my fellow former co workers.
How does all of this happen? My manager for months told me not to worry about being laid off as if he knew I wouldnt be let go and then I received the email that I was laid off. I called him and told him I received the email and that I was surprised and he said he was very surprised and apologized for misleading me. I asked if it was a mistake and if they would reconsider for me to come back and he said there is nothing that he could do about it.
That's so true that happened in a nother company and allegedly employees who were terminated were eventually called back. Treat people as second best!
Hmm.. the plot thickens... typical Macy's..
I did not get a going forward email, just 3 phone calls. 2 prior to the termination letter stating I was coming back, and one a few days after the termination letter to give say I'd been placed on the schedule. That the letter was a 'mistake'. So, if I'm reading the situation correctly; since there is nothing in writing that I am moving forward, and I only have a termination and severance notification, I can decline and accept the termination (er...separation) .
