Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Conference call etiquette

If you need to attend a conference call, please follow conference call etiquette. The host lets everyone know to mute their line. Can someone puhleeeeeeesssseeee explain to me what is so flipping hard about that? Again today we had to listen to some person loudly talking to a customer on the phone, then joking with team members. Its not an isolated incident phone ringing, casual conversations etc happen on every single call. We all are making time in our day to hop on these calls. There is so much information that is being presented in a short amount of time. You have to wait for Sally Sue to shut up so you can hear the information. This extends the calls and interrupts the train of thought of the presenter and it is just plain rude.
Then there are the people on the calls that think they need to add their 2 cents to every single thought presented. If it doesn't pertain to at least 50% of the group then keep your mouth closed. I don't want to hear you cackle about how it took you longer to log on or how old your computer is. We work for Follett, we all have old equipment. Listen respectfully (on mute). Add information if it is relevant to at least 50% of the team. Always ask yourself is what I am going to say value added?
These are work meetings that are being held on the web. However they are still Business Meetings and everyone should behave like it.
Rant over

Has nothing to layoffs at Follett.
My guess is there is no resource left at Follett for the free discussion of issues and no qualified associates left at Follett to instruct the poorly educated associates left on how to conduct themselves on a conference call.
Best and Brightest running the company now.
WELL DONE!

I'm not making the connection how this relates to thelayoff.com? Most people on this site are laid off and wish they were getting paid to be on a conference call. COVID's got you stressing the small sh*t.

Talking to a customer as no place at follett! It's all about the reports and the conference calls. Come on!
If you find yourself on conference calls that you know will be tedious and boring, you're an unlucky sap who still works at follett. A stable economy in which to find your real person job has vaporized. follett struggled in an expanding economy. It found a way to strip more money and resources from front line employees even as the economy was at full employment. What do you think they're going to do now? More succinctly- why are you still here?

Pretty sure antiquated WebEx in use is the part of the problem. But in order to use newer systems (not based on antiquated landline tech), field ops would need a massive amount of computer equipment upgrades. Chromebooks would be an upgrade...

Conference call etiquette is a good idea. But if it’s a conf call about course materials, it’s almost not worth listening because text sales are in the sh–ter regardless of directives, despite how BM makes it seem otherwise.

Hey! This is a Lay-off site, not a place where you vent about c-ap that is still going on an Follett. Who cares? Woo hoo you have a conference call. Unless it’s with people who don’t work there, this etiquette info is useless.
