How long after the HR meeting are most people told to stay? Rest of day? A few days? Or does it vary?

I was called in from vacation on a Wednesday to be laid off. Sat down with boss and HR, signed the papers and was told I was paid as an employee thru Friday and was welcome to continue to work or what ever I wanted to do. My boss told me this was a "big mistake" and to think of my family. Indeed I was. I went to the lab to say "goodby" to a couple of people, and walked out, never to return. No party, no card, no tears, no well-wishes...not the retirements I used to see in the '80's-90's. Whatever. Early retired to a ranch somewhere in the west and could not be happier. My former Engineering Lead tells me there has been a parade of young engineers through my old cubicle, each staying less time than the last and the department is in chaos with a few engineers working insane hours trying to fill 50% vacancies. I don't miss that at all.
Emotionally, VRIF is much different than RIF. To those in middle age and mid-career, finding themselves without a job, my heart goes out to you
Was notified 5/19 am. Told last day was 5/22. Access was disabled late Monday night.
All is well .. HW Aero a distant memory.
Just received HR meeting for Friday to discuss VRIF. Probably will be my last day.
the call I was on, you stay until 7/3, on the payroll.
I was given the remainder of the day but told I could leave when I got things shut down. I was remote.
There are exceptions to leaving the same day. But generally that day.
For iVRIF, it is this Friday. We aren’t allowed back in the building to get any personal stuff left after WFH started.
In Urbana, they let them come and get their things and tell everyone bye. Then they left. Self noms stayed a few days.
