I worked in IT since the Cellular one days and got laid off in 2015 with about 5000 other people - obviously not all IT.
Verizon/Verizon Wireless layoffs should not surprise anyone, especially in IT since they can just offshore everything.

If you want real change and savings in IT, get rid of 50% of the SVP's and VP's and their redundant admin staff.

Yep Vivk and the Shank can’t manage a budget and somehow think 10% onshore ratio will work. Good luck

IT has not come close to hitting their target labor rate due a combination of poor mismanagement and an inability to offshore even more work to India. Layoffs sound like a way to try and bring their overspend back in line.

Business be prepared to have even more work sit on the sidelines that cannot get done.

Actually the vast majority of the big kick backs take place at the SVP level and through them to the VP and director levels who want to hang on. When you see incompetent people at level you will see people doing the vendor bidding for their SVP connected companies

Contractors are not "layed off". They aren't employees. Their contracts are ended. Contractors are exactly what VZ wants in lieu of employees. A "fluid" organization that they can staff and unstaff as needed, especially in organizations that are not revenue generating.

It’s time for house cleanup. Hopefully by the time pandemic ends, VZ would dismantle IT org and move competent engineers directly under GTS / VBG / VCG.

Why so much fuss about contractors. Loosing kickbacks?
