I’d like to hear from some of the top performers that aren’t in management positions. What keeps you at such a company?

Scored a 2. I am a Band 3, so no bonus and no raise thanks to Darius! Then furloughed. Why would I stay longer? Just convenience while I get other things done in my life. I will absolutely leave within the next year.
Only been here a little over a year! This company is the worst!
Newbie here, what are blocks?
Several people citing pay here, but in reality you'll get paid way more by leaving. Have you looked at what "New Space" companies pay? Easily 200k+ for mid-level positions (if you stick around for bonuses to vest). Or Big Tech? They're looking for a lot of the same skills. Also $200k+.
Honeywell finds way to make sure your W2 never actually reflects your stated total compensation. Increased health premiums, furloughs, 401k match takeaways, no merit, no bonus... all of these things happen regularly.
And awards? Awards are jokes. Everyone knows Honeywell values its people the least. Look at all the mediocre engineers who have "Outstanding Engineer" awards. You really think these awards are given out for merit and not "oh, this guy has been a sorry s—er for 12 years, let's give him a cheap award"? Once, an aero employee got a Chairman's Award for traveling to Indonesia and doing literally nothing while he was there (seriously, the rest of the team was dumbfounded at how useless this employee was). This employee was PIP'd and "retired" a few years later. That is how worthless awards are.
If you have talent, the worst thing you can do is get complacent at a place like Honeywell.
I'm here for the glory.
Purely economics
Over my 30+ years I received several awards and retention bonuses
One year even received an award from ACS CEO
I do qualify for pension so when I compared to outside it just did not pay to leave
This year Honeywell paid me to leave via RIF
I was sad the first day and glad ever since!
I'm here until I get a new job offer
Mission, people, I don’t want to move, it’s not that bad! I just wish grumpy people would leave.
Pension.
Pay.
Bonuses.
Fun market served.
Earned recognition as expert in field and would need to work harder to establish self at new company.
401K match is still very competitive.
Several things: (personally for me...)
- Hands-off management
- Good Salary
- Bonuses
- Fairly easy work
Overall, its fairly simple work and my management is very hands off. I do enough to keep the boss away and I am rarely being bothered.
However, HW pays well compared to other large companies in Florida. Every interview I had for the past 3 years, I heard the same response from hiring management and recruiters: You Honeywell guys are expensive". So in my position, I'll tolerate the b—s— until I am RIFed because of the pay and hands-off management.
Consistent 2 block here. I stick because I get nice bonuses and make good coin. Also my boss is in another country and doesn't care if I'm in the office these past few years of mandatory work in office c-ap. As long as I can work from home I'll stick around. Not worth the effort to commute. I interviewed recently and the pay didn't outweigh the WFH loss for me
Good luck! I can’t find anyone to move on any projects. I get my a– hammered because all the ones that will not move on projects! I am out of this sh–hole. One to greener pastures!
Understand you completely. I was a slow learner, but eventually realized that despite all of the Sh–, I was never going to find the pony.
True top performers (not just those two get put into upper elbow to meet a quota) are usually rewarded with promotions and new jobs every 1-3 years. In addition to big pay increases (10-15%, sometimes much more), each new role brings new hope and new challenge. With every new role, you "climb" out of the last, sh–ty job that became more and more disatisfying.
But... YOU NEVER GET OUT OF THE Sh–. It doesn't matter how high you climb, whether it's Director, Fellow, or even VP. You will quickly find that there's literally no end to the sh– that is Honeywell. You're so mired that you can't do your job, and that you are embarassed to talk to your customers. At some point, you realize that there's no job or title at Honeywell that you actually want, because every job is just as bad.
If you're a top technical performer, leave now. Leave before Honeywell robs you of highly valued technical skills. There are many, many high-paying jobs with awesome benefits out there who want your skills.
If you're on the management side, it's even more urgent for you. Nothing looks worse on paper than a laid-off manager or director.
I was a band 3 for 10 years before being RIF'ed this year. I was a consistent 2 block until my title changed and I automatically went to a 5 even then I went back to a 2. I earned a couple of patents and put well over $100M in new revenue on the table. I never thought I would make past the first year at Honeyhell. I then discovered a couple things, the pay was good even though I was worth much more and the job was easy if you played their game. I basically quit and stayed only working at about 60% of my potential. I put easy money on the table about every 5 years to help us justify our dept. The easy money and the id–ts I worked made me a slave to my paycheck. Even currently unemployed I am so glad to be out of that place. I will soon be competing with them at 100% of my potential and I am sure some managers are going to realize what they lost. Fortunately I did not take a severance package when I left so they will have no recourse against me. I hope to beat them in one of their most profitable businesses and the icing on the cake is if I can steal a few good employees as well.
Just waiting for that offer for senior level position
I havent been here long enough to have a block. But why I took this job and why I stay is one thing. $$$. Im making 50% more doing an easier job, with a better title than from where I came from. The stability s—s, but I have bills to pay. As long as they keep direct depositing my salary, I'll keep putting my 40 hours in. When they RIF me, I'll collect my severance and unemployment while I search for something more stable.
Cant control it, so I dont worry about it.
