Has anybody worked for one of our competitors before they started at AT&T? Is the situation the same as here or better (it's hard to imagine it could be worse?)

I worked at Level 3 Communications. They were awesome until the Wiltel merger the went to hell. I got laid off and they hired 3 people to do my job covering most of Fl. Wiltel upper management was put in charge due to an SBC fiber agreement.....they laid off most Level 3 people to keep buddies or to bring back old friends.
Level 3 handled mergers like proffesionals. They integrated field forces i to existing areas then managers could pick who got to stay...based upon needs. When we bought Covad i was able to keep everyone and we migrated all traffic on net and sold buildings and leased spaces......now Centurylink owns them......shame they have no ideA what to do with such power
Worked at GTE in Los Angeles in 1980’s. We used to joke GTE stood for God’s Terrible Error. Bad plant , bad customer service, bad management. Verizon bought GTE then practically gave it to Frontier. Verizon got smart and got rid of lots of landlines and offered thousands of employees buyouts. That is why they are financially better than ATT
Yes. I worked at Verizon and the layoffs cycles, poor leadership, red tape, etc were about the same.
I tried to go work at other companies, but SBC kept buying the companies I went to. I did actually go to work at Sprint briefly between surpluses and they were pretty bad, too.
"Verizon stock is double Att's.Why ?"
how is their yahoo acquisition doing
Question on the value of the stock, first at&t has more than 2x the number of share that Verizon has. AT&T is also a dividend stock, which for most investors is more desirable. It's the gift that keeps on giving 4 times a year...
Yes I was at Frontier. What a p–p show!

They are not as loaded with debt as AT&T. They are better managed than AT&T. They are staying more in their lane and focusing on 5G rollout rather than trying to become a media conglomerate and all things to everyone. They have not made multiple high profile very expensive gaffes (think failed TMO acquisition) and in the process given their competitors a leg up on them, using what used to be their money to do so. They haven't horribly overpaid for a dying satellite TV company that in 5 short years has become a boat anchor on their balance sheet. They don't have an arrogant, pompous, know it all jackwagon at the helm with another one waiting in the wings to replace him (one that incredibly is even MORE pompous and arrogant). Should I go on?
I don't know about other Telecom. I was at AT&T 21.5yrs and surplused in Mar 2019. Landed at Discover and very very different. Much lower stress. Reasonable goals. I was freaked out by how nice my boss and next boss up is. Gave us 2 free 1/2 days this year already. They send everyone on the team care packages during lockdowm. Birthday gift every year. On meetings there is no Dominating the call. Oh and......right from the start 25 days PTO (zero sick days). Bad thing is at level 2 only 7% bonus. I'm still cautious since I'm waiting for the Hammer to drop and find out all this NICE is not true but....into my 3mo here still everyone is NICE. Most on my team have 20+ years at Discover and still love there job. What I wish now is that I had started at Discover years ago instead of Ameritech.
Verizon went through a very similar experience a few years ago with rebadges and severance. However the severance was very generous with tenured employees getting up to 60 weeks of pay and benefits.
