I can’t believe the backlash over Lowe’s closing Easter. They are not “taking” one of your days off. Full time will still get the same amount of days and hours....but hey! Now one of those days is one we complain each year we should have off.
No they should not pay us for it. We get plenty of vacation, holiday, and sick time (full timers). Plus we just had a huge win with a bonus AND $2 more per hour this month.
Yeah yeah I know. People think that isn’t enough. But Lowe’s doesn’t owe us anything like that. They will go through tough financial times after this as well. What they DO owe us is to take our safety and health seriously. We should be diligently cleaning and sanitizing. And working should be voluntary with no repercussions if we chose to sit this out. I’d trade the money for that.
But in the meantime, I’m thanking God that I’m not one of the millions having to try to file for unemployment while not being able to even reach anyone, or in a line of hundreds of cars for a food bank.
Can Lowe’s do better? Yes. But we are in the middle of something that is going to have a grave impact on our economy. They are predicting that some people will not have jobs to go back to. I’m just grateful I have a job right now.
At the end of the day, it’s our choice if we stay at Lowe’s or quit and face the unknown. But we should at least accept what we are getting with grace, especially since we are getting a lot more than a lot of others.
