Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Complaining

I can’t believe the backlash over Lowe’s closing Easter. They are not “taking” one of your days off. Full time will still get the same amount of days and hours....but hey! Now one of those days is one we complain each year we should have off.

No they should not pay us for it. We get plenty of vacation, holiday, and sick time (full timers). Plus we just had a huge win with a bonus AND $2 more per hour this month.

Yeah yeah I know. People think that isn’t enough. But Lowe’s doesn’t owe us anything like that. They will go through tough financial times after this as well. What they DO owe us is to take our safety and health seriously. We should be diligently cleaning and sanitizing. And working should be voluntary with no repercussions if we chose to sit this out. I’d trade the money for that.

But in the meantime, I’m thanking God that I’m not one of the millions having to try to file for unemployment while not being able to even reach anyone, or in a line of hundreds of cars for a food bank.

Can Lowe’s do better? Yes. But we are in the middle of something that is going to have a grave impact on our economy. They are predicting that some people will not have jobs to go back to. I’m just grateful I have a job right now.

At the end of the day, it’s our choice if we stay at Lowe’s or quit and face the unknown. But we should at least accept what we are getting with grace, especially since we are getting a lot more than a lot of others.

Even Walmart did better by their associates than Lowes did. I am grateful for nothing. They waited til the stimulus guaranteed repayment, they are losing nothing. Other companies didn’t wait for that guarantee and did it anyway because it was what was right, and they needed to maintain employee loyalty for when we get out of all this. And according to Marvin, we are “expendable.”

If your manager is telling you to use paid time off then they are not following the right guide lines you need to read through your covid emails carefully

Origonal comment is obviously a manager on salary. Who gets paid regardless, bonuses, and weekends off and has a stash of Lysol and germx is his office space.

I'm a part timer working full time hours. I've ended up with three days next week because of this. I've lost Sunday because of the closing and I've lost Tuesday since they gave it to the remaining full timer in my department. I'll just ask the front end manager if she needs help pulling Internet orders and I'll be back up over 40 hours.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but that doesn't make it more valid than anyone else's. My manager asked me if I would like Easter charged as a vacation day or as one of my floating holidays. Personally I do not appreciate being told when I need to use one of my personal days. Perhaps it was presented to you differently. Again, as for you being grateful to have a job that is your opinion. Many reputable companies furloughed their employees so that they did not loose their medical benefits while allowing them the option to either file for unemployment (and looking for other work) OR waiting for their employers to open back up. Our choice is to STFU and report to work or quit and receive nothing (most states you are ineligible for unemployment if you willingly quit a job).

My opinion is that $300 and an additional $2 an hour (which didn't start till April) is not worth the fact I am now self quarantining anytime I am not at work and can't even risk seeing my own family this Easter for fear I could be infected yet asymptomatic and could potentially k–l my high risk loved ones. Granted it is a low risk but one I am unwilling to take. In my case I feel trapped as I can not afford to quit, not due to the loss of income but rather due to the loss of medical benefits. That is why some in congress are attempting to open up enrollment for Obama Care so perhaps we can still apply for somewhat affordable medical coverage. The way Lowe's has handled this up to the time that one of our fellow associates died from Covid-19 was nothing short of disgraceful and nothing more than them trying to capitalize on business opportunities and a chance to steal market share from Home Depot. But hey, that's only my opinion and no more or less valid than your own.
