"Thanks AT&T for making difficult decisions to keep the business successful in tough times."
They are taking the EASY direction, they are not solving the problem this is just a temporary band-aid to look good with numbers. The difficult decision would be to find ways for growth, new revenues, new products that people actually want.
a coworker did some looking around during the Town Hall and found Jeff's "rough" work at home environment. https://www.zillow.com/homes/3625-Caruth-Blvd,-Dallas,-TX-75225_rb/27208436_zpid/
"Don’t feel too bad if it’s you (or me), because they have NO IDEA the fallout from cutting the wrong groups."
Truth.
20% of my group hit laid off last time around - two weeks after it was announced, our director admitted he didn't know what any of us did so we needed to have a bunch of calls explaining it to him.
It doesn't matter what you do or how good you do it, one in five of you are getting laid off.
@nto, "If I only had a buck for every time he's used the word "transformation".
New drinking game. Do a shot every time he says 'transformation'. You'll be hammered in 15 minutes.
@1wrz+14QgpuYS, the business wasn't successful in 'good' times the past few years. Do you really think they will do better when times are harder?
Remember that $1.5B is based on loaded labor rate, not just salary.
Thanks AT&T for making difficult decisions to keep the business successful in tough times.
What was ridiculous about his presentation was the area’s of importance where identical to what was shared 15 years ago.... cutting your way to growth has never worked.... the T model is to hollow out lines of business with year over year cuts. Shocking that we are 3rd in a 3 company race regarding customer NPS... our customers must have a “...low IQ...” for not understanding the value of dealing with 3rd world countries for customer service. Stank my not make it to July if HBO max goes as poorly as projected
This is just the start, employee head count in threes year will be 50% of what it is today.
The billions spent on DTV and TW won't pay off.
Not sure who is down voting the 1.5B comments, that is literally what he said. Employee/contractor (I assume) cuts totaling 1.5B in salary savings planned this year, with no incentives. Said T spends 2x what other companies do on IT, so yes - expect heavy cuts in IT. Don’t feel too bad if it’s you (or me), because they have NO IDEA the fallout from cutting the wrong groups. It may save them money in the short term, but going to cause even more chaos and loss of customers

In the article above they say $1.5B is about 4% of labor expenses, and AT&T employs about 252,000 people, so that means layoffs of around 10,000 people.
~15,000
Exactly how many employees is equivalent to 1.5 billion in labor costs?
The layoffs will continue until morale improves.
Getting rid of excessive CRM and billing systems will need IT, so they will sign a couple of multi year/million contracts to vendors to provide over priced systems that don't work. Kiss that NPS score good bye. Mark my word, this is going to happen.
I still remember a vendor citing that they build system xyz as part their sales pitch and thought it was a great idea. Systems xyz s—s and was so embedded for over a decade before it was finally k–led.
running out of people who only have BS degrees - gonna have to start hitting some of those master degree folks.
I can tell you this......uhhhh no
He said no MVO this time.
Another hour of my life wasted that I won't get back.
TLDR: Business is up, so we're going to lay more people off this summer, just as soon as it is politically feasible. We don't know what IT does, so they will likely bear the brunt.
See how we are working from home? Nice backgrounds, huh?
The peanut butter won't be spread evenly. Oh, wait, that's my kid's lunch. Well, we'll use it to plan layoffs anyway.
But remember, we're a team. Customers depend on us. But we're still going to lay you off anyway.
who the eff are these people that he claims agree with what their plan is? We are in this position because of leadership...sh– show T-mobile purchase attempt, sh– show directv purchase, and now what is looking like another sh– show purchase of Time Warner.
Peanut butter will be the only thing you can afford after getting laid off.
peanut butter?
He said the IT organization is heavy. Expect big cuts in IT.
If I only had a buck for every time he's used the word "transformation".
Ratty is wonderful (at putting us in debt). Made great decisions (buying and destroying other businesses). Built the business (into the ground). Wonderful human being (except to US employees). Great to work for (except if you don't have a golden parachute).
Stinky is great to work for (as brief as that may be). Great vision (for driving off talent).
ALL BS!
