Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

HBO MAX is DOA, Most Americans say price is to high per survey. Bye, bye Stankey.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-05/hbo-max-s-price-too-high-for-most-americans-streaming-budgets?utm_source=url_link

There it is folks, it’s time to dump everyone that got the company to this point.

“ AT&T Inc.’s HBO Max doesn’t debut until the end of the month, but the company is already working hard to convince Americans they can afford it.

The video service will cost $15 a month – at the high end of what its streaming rivals charge – but a promotion lets customers get it for $12 monthly for the first year. AT&T executive Jeff McElfresh said last month that the company was looking at several ways to make HBO Max more palatable.

It’s no wonder. According to a survey of about 1,000 U.S. consumers conducted by Corus on behalf of Bloomberg, the majority of Americans spend $15 or less on their entire streaming budget. And for now at least, HBO Max isn’t the priority.

HBO’s platform was considered less essential than Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, according to respondents. They put it in the same range as CBS All Access, a $6-a-month service that’s been a modest success for ViacomCBS Inc. but not the buzzy hit that HBO Max aspires to be.“

Oh yeah, let's run the company based on what most America thinks.

I will admit that once I saw a commercial, I got a better sense of what is involved in terms of content. There's a lot more than I realized.

That being said, if FB comments are any indivpcation, people just don't know what the difference is with this and all the other HBO branded stuff, and that's a problem, similar to all the AT&T video services. You can only rely on brand to a point, and once again the customer is the one left confused and/Or left feeling indifferent.

Am I correct that the target is 50 million subscribers in the next few years? I don't see that happening with all the password sharing that goes on, in addition to an already confused potential customer base.

Hope they figure it out, for all our sakes.

Just wait, they'll end up putting commercials on it and it will become yet one more of our streaming services that only confuse everyone about how they all fit together.

The only way they will have subscribers in any great number is if they give a year away with every cell phone sold. I really don’t see why any regular person would subscribe to this? If you want HBO you already have it. People aren’t lining up to watch Friends and South Park reruns. If you had 15/mo to spend on a streaming service you’re telling me you would pick HBO Max over Netflix/Hulu/Disney? Also this is literally the worst time in history to try and get people to subscribe to another service. This thing is DOA.

This product is such b—s—. If DirecTV now was a big fat failure why would HBO MAX or whatever they’re calling it be any different? This leadership team is incompetent get rid of them all.

That's why they are already offering an employee discount for it. Got to inflate those numbers

"I think at this point, they're going to have to give it away"

Stanky is, to every existing person who now pays for HBO currently (35M subscribers) and overpriced AT&T cell service subscribers. That way he can make his 50M subscriber number in 5 years. He never said 50M new paid subscribers adds.

"AT&T’s John Stankey: Disney+ “Not That Deep,” But HBO Max Will Reach Whole Family"

He could mock the Mouse but Disney + has surpassed 50 million subscribers in under 6 months.

I think at this point, they're going to have to give it away for the first year and k–l budgets and headcount across the company to produce lots of expensive content so once the "giveaway" price expires, people are going to want to keep the service.

Stankey seems like the kind of guy who'd gamble on tearing the whole thing down because he's the smartest guy in the room and can make it work.

"1000 people surveyed a few years back said Clinton would win"

Well, she did get like a million more votes.

“Experts” say lots of things to that end up being wrong. And every 1000 people surveyed a few years back said Clinton would win. They point is nobody knows what will happen. I didn’t consider myself a streamer by any stretch, but find myself paying for 4 these days after trial ended- funny how that worked out. Also the “massive” numbers Max will have with employees getting is lame, when is 240k massive numbers in streaming? Just keep it real folks, everything right now is a guess.

So cable TV and IPTV service subscriptions declining, high speed internet access is increasing.

Should have built out more fiber to the home

"Bye, bye Stankey." - well not that easy!

First, Stinky will tweak the numbers, just like Ratty, the master of financial engineering, did. We just saw the first hint - the employee discount for HBO-Max. Free to all employees if you have DTV. So they will have instant massive customer base overnight to wow Wall St with. Simple!

When it flops in the market, I can only pray that Elliot has the wisdom and fortitude to throw his pompous rear off the bus.

He won't go willingly. His buddy chairs the board, and they have each other's back.
