Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Sabre needs srrong technology leadership

We are not an airline. We are not a travel agent. Yet I have a feeling that 90% of top management at Sabre comes from operations units of travel companies.
That's why we cannot migrate to cloud on our own. That's the root of the acquisition fail. Out approach is to buy the technology we need. We should leverage the technology we need, not buy it from others.
Where is our technology leadership? Why Sabre didn't invest in developing cloud/devops skills of its workforce during the last few years?

To be fair, by definition not every company can be a top-tier company nor can every employee be a top-tier employee. I'd rephrase your conclusion: if a top-tier engineer is serious about software development and their professional career, they go and wok elsewhere ASAP.

As an ex-employee that has seen world outside of Sabre and in top-tier tech companies.

It's amusing that people here think that Google aquisition of Sabre would mean layoffs only for leadership. That would have to be waaaaay deeper. Most of software engineers left in Sabre have no chance being accepted at top-tier company. I've seen multiple examples of engineers especially in DFW that simply cannot code :)
TechOps people that do not know how to use Linux, EAs that can't manage calendar and create spreadsheet. Engineering Managers that know nothing about technology, project managers that are simply note takers. Level of mediocrity goes way deeper than execs :(
I'm thankful to Sabre for the time I had there, but at the same time if someone is serious about software development and their professional career, they go and wok elsewhere ASAP.

If Google buys Sabre, believe me it will start firing from the bottom. Don't fool yourself by assuming that Google will find Sabre individual tech contributors as the people they want to retain. They have enough brainiacs to replace them.

Google isnt perfect either, if you had seen that company from the inside you would be amazed at the non public failures they have had. It is more satisfying to work there though. If they only had a decent Dallas office

Whatever sabre buys turns to dust. Look at some fantastic products we have bought over the years. As soon as it get integrated into sabre tech life cycle , things go out of control and customers start leaving. This falls squarely on leadership and or structure with so many departments having personal agenda and goals. There is no cohesive strategy and everything is about saving your own a__ . Such long test cycles are unheard of in the industry. Such poor quality release would put most companies out of business. Maybe one of the reasons why the ship is sinking fast.

The best thing that could happen to Sabre is for Google to buy the company and fire every manager, director and above on day one.

"We should leverage the technology we need, not buy it from others."

Google has built one of the most powerful technology companies on the planet buying niche tech firms, and that is why they will buy Sabre. Watch.

I agree. Everything this company does or doesn't do or how it reacts to market changes falls squarely on the leadership. How the executives earn anything more than their salary is absolutely beyond me.

if you have a tech company that does treat tech as the single most important thing there. You will have a major problem and that company will be in major decline.

You will ultimately get screwed at every angle. outsourcing.. you'll get screwed.. buyouts you'll get screwed... market movement you'll get screwed.

You have to actually care about the products you build and how you build it.

This "leadership" is the absolute worst

Any focus on technology would needlessly divert resources away from executive compensation.

Technology is always treated as cost, never as advantage.
