Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

H1B and furloughed!

Are there any H1B visa holders that are furloughed? Is this possible given the requirements for H1B visa?

In our group 3 H-1b visa holders don’t have masters. They joined 1-2 years back and they have no experience in our domain. People with domain knowledge and technically superior employee have been furloughed just to keep those unexperienced H-1B visa holders. Only qualification they have they can oil the managers and yes boss kind of people.

@3jjv+14Dr9IQL Right , there are contracts too besides H1 visas, but contracts do have an End Date.
Hopefully Sabre VP's open their eyes and apply some tests to realize employees from India are not better than americans but they need to give americans an opportunity at least to get an interview so at least they can compete for a job. I have seen in Sabre H1 visa holders getting hired without even competing with americans or anybody else.

You may have heard from your Dallas Management that it is illegal to lay off employees in INDIA. That is a lie. It is not true. Other firms in the US that have offices in Bangalore and Chennai have laid off employees. So, do not take statements and blanket answers you get as truth.
Secondly, if any employees are laid off, the company be it owned privately or publicly has an obligation to provide you a list of the individual being laid off by age, ethnic background, gender. They usually leave the name off. This is to eliminate discrimination by any of the defining categories. This is a Federal Law, and supersedes any Texas employment law that you may have been told does not mandate the company the right to provide.

H1B contractors are on a contract. The contract specifies that a certain amount of the contracting companies employees must be kept on contract as it is probably for a fixed amount. Cognizant and TaTa which are big INDIAN contracting firms in the US usually have this written into the managed service agreement that is negotiated between your firm and their company. So, laying off the H1B's is not really something that can be done without running the risk of a breach of contract with the firm contracted with. Remember, fixed contract. Breech of contract and Remedy if the contract is breached either by your venture capitalist holding company, SilverLake or others.

It is natural anger when tenant survives in their home and the home owners were kicked out. When you get your GC/citizenship you wont support h1bs for sure.

Hey H1bs, be polite. We have come to their country. They don’t need to care about your visa problems when they are in trouble. Would you care about your neighbor’s home when your home is in fire. We never tolerate other state people working in our states or North- South. How do you expect here? We came here under our own risk. We need to take care of ourselves. Be polite and win the situation .Dont be hatred. Everyone is talented in their own way. Pray for everyone.

The reality is that John Cornyn will do whatever he is told by business interests.
I expect that his position will be that he will agree to help U.S. workers AFTER the election.... at which point there will be no need for him to even pay lip service.

@1ois+14Dr9IQL do you think so? Let's prove it in court, in front of the immigration officer, don't forget to bring your annual reviews too. We will see who has better skills, education, and Sabre annual reviews. Good luck!

I am an H1B holder and took a voluntary furlough from the March packages. One of my colleagues had another type of work visa and she was furloughed. Stay strong and be safe out there.

Employer must file amendment before any pay reduction or any other change to H1B. If they furlough H1B, it is going to be problem for both company and H1B holder. I suggest you to consult an immigration attorney immediately.

SHS and working with a visa? Visas are for highly skilled employees that cannot find it in US. I wonder how the visa was authorized.

Yes . Im on SHS and on an H1and was furloughed. Not sure what all these comments about illegal furloughs are or how they are spreading. The misrepresented hate against foreigners here is out of the charts for no reason.
