Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Furloughs most all contracts for 3 Months

In order to protect all Xerox employees as 1st priority in this pandemic, most all contract workers have been furloughed for 3 long months–no pay or anything! IOW, at a time of steep decline of its stock and perhaps income, it had to protect the CEO(24m a year) and its top brass salaries & dividends. So, what better action to take than get rid of several hundreds of workers! And they did not even have the audacity to even hint this in the media. Instead, they quietly informed contract houses to take care of this, while the CEO still making videos from home on how 'concerned' and proactive he is for his employees.

Most here talk about contract workers, but direct is getting hit too. Our district has had techs with 35 years sent home. I too would like to see some evidence of upper management taking some cuts. We know they are not, because if they were they would be singing their sacrifices from the highest rooftop.

Got furloughed last week. No notice at all!!! Got a call from management you and five others are the chosen one's. This is your last day of work see you in 3 months maybe. Thank you Xerox! I'll just go and collect unemployment which is a mess right now and have to decide which bills to pay! That's if I could ever get a check from unemployment!!! I thank you and my family thanks you! It was a pleasure watching your videos. Think well have tuna for dinner tonight dear!

Got furloughed. Xerox can still pay a dividend and was recently somehow in a position to buy hp, but can’t keep paying workers. The other month they gave out management promotions

Typical chicken s___t action by Xerox which has been doing this for years. It’s just more in the open now.

Just got news of my furlough effective at the end of next week - nice of them to give me eight days warning - maybe they thought I deserved that after 6+ years busting my rear end ... obviously didn't bust it hard enough to get hired though.

Here in the UK. A lot of the staff have been furloughed because the government are offering an 80% grant of their salary. Xerox are topping that up to 100% for the furloughed people. Xerox are also helping to manufacture respirators and hand sanitizer. It is a hard time for everyone at the moment. Hopefully everyone will pull through this auwfull time.

"All competitors have furloughed/laid off their people." One company that has not is HP. I am a contract worker there and HP has decided to keep everyone employed even if they can't work from home or work onsite. Yes at full pay.

All competitors have furloughed/laid off their people. This is a situation beyond anything we have seen. Hopefully this will end soon but we cant blame the company for trying to keep it afloat.

xerox senior management suspend comp in a time of global crisis? Real leadership? Nope! When was the last time TRUE game changing tech came directly out of this stagnant company...Color Cube via Tektronix? 1) Cut costs by outsourcing. 2) Max shareholder and senior exec comp. 3) Dance the acquisition cha-cha. - Wash - Rinse - Repeat.

They let go full time docucare reps that the customer pays for in their contract. Some have been with the company ten plus years on FT contract status. There was talk of putting technicians in their place. Sorry we don't know how to do their jobs (setting up and running complex jobs). The customer is still paying for bodies they no longer have

Contract workers are not always cheaper. Particularly when you hire through an agency. The benefit is in the flexibility.

Fully agree best to let contract workers go than direct employees. But Xerox got into the habit of using contracts because they were cheaper (not part of head count and no benefits). Totally at odds with being a socially responsible company was never meant to balance the workforce. It was to get cheap labor and let someone else deal with lay-off issues.

JV salary is only about $750. The rest is bonus, only partially cash. 19 of the 23 from last year is prob now 10 if he didn’t sell. The situation is bad, but a flexible workforce is the whole point of using contract workers. There is such surprise and outrage on this site, but JV is just doing what everyone already knows he is going to do.

I would rather see contract workers furloughed than Xerox direct. That's one of the reasons we use contract in the first place. It allows us to balance the workforce in bad times like this without hurting Xerox people.

That said, I'd also like to see senior management give up some salary and bonus.
