What many don't realize that say "you can quit" is, we all don't live in metro areas.
Where I am, most everyone I know drives 20 - 45 minutes average to work. This is not just lowe's people, everyone I know and even my customers. We joke that if we all just coordinated, we could change jobs and not have to drive so far.
My biggest account drives 50 minutes one way to work. This is after his 3 previous employers were bought out or went under. Even then, he's making less than he did 10 years ago.
I am making as much as I did 30 years ago. My company was bought out just to acquire rights and put out of business.
If you live in a high density area, you have more options. Options not all have.
I'm lucky in that I'm retiring this year. After what I've lost in the 10's of thousands in the last week due to a poor stock market, I may have to work a few months longer, but if Lowes does anything stupid more than they are, I can at least leave. Mortgage paid, no debt. I'm just feeding my retirement as much as I can.
On my store, most elderly employees are working because they were self employed and failed to invest in a 401K or paid into social security and now have little to draw from. Before you play a tiny fiddle, remember these people didnt have the Internet or training like we do today to teach them the value of investing in themselves. Most of you scholars only know because your parents or family member were in the same boat.
So, be kind. Not everyone CAN quit because they hate Lowe's. In many cases, Lowe's is the largest employer in the area.
