Marking off Sick -2.0

Now the phone app NS has wont let you mark off at all, you have to call a human like the old days. Why you ask? Because now the crew callers are questioning everyone if they have Coronavirus before they mark off sick. Soon you will have to talk to a Trainmaster also no doubt just like if it’s a holiday!

It’s a well known fact that the Southern Management HATES the Northern regions. After all, they are still upset Atlanta got burned down. Sherman should have done a better job with that really. Now with dispatch and chiefs all being down in Atlanta, the amount of condescension and sarcasm on the radio from them has increased times 10 at least! I almost wonder if every time on of those southern dispatcher gets assigned to a northern desk they are made fun of by their coworkers so they are nasty for their entire shift

You sound like you may be from the south, but up north it gets pretty cold out on the tracks with are list of cars we have to classify for hours on end in the cold. It became increasingly harder once you see the people you have worked with for years gone one by one.I guess in the end I will be replaced too with maybe someone who doesn't demand things like a fair wage or fair work rules. But in the end you will get what you pay for. By the way , have you people ever got over the civil war?

Might be a desk worker?? You never know... boots on the ground working hard you are not. railroaders haven’t worked hard in the last 20 years. I think my perception is more accurate. Y’all getting busted sleeping or on you phone all the time.

Maybe you are one of the ones who sit behind a desk to try to look busy, us boots on the ground are under tremendous pressure to do the work that used to be done by the ones laid off.

Did you really say it’s a lot of pressure to be at work every day? I’m starting to see why the company is doing what it is.

Since they laid off so many, the ones who are left are vital, that leaves no wiggle room.It puts a lot of pressure on us to be at work every day because there is no back up. This draconian mental stress is just so the higher ups and share holders pocket more coin.

In the mechanical department we've always had a work rule stating you must talk to someone (Foreman, Mechanical Supervisor, Senior General Foreman) when marking off. To be marked off as sick, you must present a note from your doctors when returning to work otherwise you're marked off as AK, "absent with acknowledgement ". Since we don't have sick leave or sick pay, if you mark off too many days even with a note from your doctor, you still can be put on the street.
