Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Volume too low? Don't worry, CMM not required when an ASM will do!

Laid out during the last RIF fest (February is the other RIF party,) Follett's strategy was to eliminate Course Materials Managers for stores falling below a certain sales volume, with the restructuring allowing for an Assistant Store Manager hire. This is really going to affect -some- Store Manager II sized stores (lower sales volume stores never had a CMM to begin with, more work for less pay, that's the SMI way!)

I'm left scratching my head at the big box smartest guys in the room types in the C-suite (including a recent VP or higher hire whose background includes being in executive positions in every firm responsible for the credit crunch and almost every major case of corporate malpractice since) recognize that while lining their pockets with everything including office supplies not nailed down recognize that many SM II's may not have any experience course materials. Used to be it involved six months training for CMM.

Throwing people who may have spent over a decade or more without having to worry about course materials into a situation where they're asked to do a great deal of specialized work without even knowing where to find actual enrollment is going to be like not only flushing the toilet, but then plunging the water to make certain it doesn't even have time to swirl the drain.

New Sm, new asm, from outside the industry, will be expected to adopt textbooks & make qtc decisions for summer & fall. And, not to mention new contract. No training in CT. Good luck.

This is a great post. Life is your family etc. Follett is just a job. Change your mindset and remember the folks in the ivory tower.

You MUST do more with less. You MUST do more without training. VP's collect big bonuses while you make yourself sick trying to do your job.
Lesson: if you work for Follett, it's just a job, not a career. Be ready to quit every day. Be ready to be RIF'ed every day.
Most important, do as little as possible! No matter how hard you work, how hard you try, you will only be rewarded with more work, no more pay, and no chance of advancement.

Here we go again, our yearly 911 to cut payroll. I agree, people standing around doing nothing is wasteful. I also agree that big parties for the ivory tower are wasteful.
How many stores have people standing around?
The payroll wouldn't be out of control if we had competitive prices, clothing that people wanted (please stop sending crop tops), are realistic budgets.
