Merger deadline has been extended until 1 May 2020. Regulatory approval is still a question mark, as significant objections have been raised in the UK and in Australia, along with numerous groups in the U.S. (most notably the College Bookstore Association). Should the merger go through one imagines heads will begin to roll over the summer months. Or this could drag on into the latter half of the year.

This appears to be true: reported by Reuters. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mcgrawhill-m-a-cengage/textbook-publishers-cengage-mcgraw-hill-extend-merger-agreement-to-may-1-idUSKBN1ZS37C
Dragging on is the norm ala Brexit. Learning is about creation of new knowledge thus the need for Universities. Publishing companies are about the logistics of dissemination of this new knowledge. If publishing companies fail for reasons unrelated to learning so be it.
