Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

These reviews and insight are true true true! Google just picked up a 10 million dollar order that oracle didn’t even compete against and the oracle rep had zero idea that he wasn’t even in the game and just like that google pick up the business. This was an oracle install account or so they thought lol.

You are spot on. In fact, given their enterprise presence, they don’t even have to invent, just copy others success and sell it as bundle. They tried doing that with cloud but the AWS rejects screwed up big time.

I can verify there are meetings with many Execs at HQ this coming week.

Oracle spent $36 billion last year buying back its own stock. Imagine if Oracle would take that sum, just for one year, and spend it over the next 5-10 years on building new innovative products.

Pick the ten most promising ideas, hire the smartest people and fund the projects fully. Think big, a neural database? A new programming paradigm? A cloud operating system? Brain emulations.

The goal should not be to build a product to make the most money from in two years, it will almost certainly fail, but to get the most widespread use in 5-10 years. If enough companies, users or developers, are using the product, you can always monetize it somehow. Amazon didn't build their cloud infrastructure to make money in two years. Neither did Google search or Facebook.

Bean counters will never understand this.

They keep cutting and cutting, but it will never lead to long term growth. Oracle success stems from the idea that a relational database can be really fast. By being first and getting early adoption, the company could dominate the industry. That idea still brings in money, forty years later...

Now, imagine funding ten such new ideas.

More likely a disgruntled ex O employee who can't just move on.

Selling off lines of business might make more sense. The buyer ends up doing the layoffs and it generates cash for stock buybacks.

AWS and Google people aren't spending their energy or time thinking about Oracle.

This so-called “Ax-Man” doesn’t have a clue about what he/she is taking about.

Maybe some sell offs. SC has her work cut out for her. She is going to take the company far beyond MH's small meaningless cuts. I think she intends to "right-size" the company.

It kind of makes sense that the movement of support to development could indicate some kind of packaging of business units. It will take time to figure all of that out, but I suspect she is going to make a real list and really make some intense changes in the company.

Cut or sell off? I see the move of support groups into development a step to make it easier to segment and sell off product areas that aren't producing expected revenues.
