Thread regarding Follett layoffs

The Rumor of April 2

For the five to ten who regularly pursue this unfortunate graveyard of lost careers and sanity, April 2nd is the new boogie man. Sometimes sadism and the idea of making others miserable can mean false rumors, for all we know HR has someone on that one full time.

But April 2 keeps popping up since April is the start of FY21, and while harvest season is normally September/February, it appears a harvesting of 'talent' is being put in place for April 2? Or is this just, new year, old problems jitters? Only share what you're safe sharing, but 'oh I hear it's something big' doesn't do much. 'there are rumors of changes in store structuring' does. Even if, right now that is '0 labor hours for all, PDV needs a gastric bypass' what can be said other than '95+ SVPs, Follett's lost the plot, book fairs don't help, BF isn't the hero we need but the one we deserve' etc.

Last week some were given furloughs until July while others have reduced hours. Will this be longer then 90 days? Will take some time after things settle down to recover so it could likely be longer

Only one day. April 3rd was the major purge at Corporate. "Temporary" layoffs which will extend well past the 90 days that they are saying.

There have been layoffs within the corporate office the past couple weeks but it's very hard to tell since many people are gone this month trying to deplete their "use-it-or-lose-it" PTO days. There is also the Covid-19 pandemic which we think are having people work from home. Right now the Tower in Westchester is a ghost town. If there is a major layoff on April 2nd no one will notice because no one will be there.

Makes sense. April 1st, New Fiscal Year. YEAH!

Remember when we would celebrate that? Pastries in the Lunch Room!

Now it's like you've got cancer and it's days not weeks...
