Thread regarding 3M layoffs

This CEO & team has run out of ideas

but yet they keep transforming and changing the organization structure.

Advance 3M. What a joke.

I was told by 3M management: learn to live with Covid19 and come in to work in a plant having 11 cases positive. Job functions not touching product are required to be in the plant physically instead of encouraging to work from home. Contradictory, 3M HQ asked office people work from home but not the case in 3M California plants.

I'll start with the positive: 3M still has a large number of inventive, industrious, and collaborative scientists and engineers who will bend over backward to help each other out. I was impressed by this when I started, and still am today. Mike Roman also appears to be the most honorable and capable CEO we've had in the last 15 years, though I'm certainly not saying that he is a perfect CEO. The negative: reticence to push back hard enough against "the market" (yes, I know this is a nebulous term that's meant to be all-encompassing). 3M needs to establish that our priority is on long-term sustainable growth, not short-term quarterly metrics that a group of analysts with no intimate knowledge of our businesses arbitrarily says we need to hit. I believe that most rational people would respect and welcome making a firm public stance on this. Second issue: middle managers and supervisors are consistently being selected for the wrong reasons (e.g. blatantly self-serving blind ambition). We need to focus on re-creating what many of the old- timers pine for: an environment where the individual scientist/engineer is given greater autonomy to conceive of and execute their own vision for making their products, processes, or manufacturing lines as innovative and profitable as possible. Incompetent management stifles all of that.

How will relaxing the dress code help to improve the 3M business, which is really lacking now??

The stock price has crashed from peak of $260 to $130+ range now!!

Not necessarily...they sent an email regarding dresscode for employees this week.

From yahoo finance message board :
My friend tells me that yesterday 3M sent out a memo to its employees about a new dress code. How silly and stupid. Not one word about the virus , work from home options, how they are addressing keeping their employees safe, travel guideline.. what’s going on.
Has HR taken over this once great company. We need leadership and currently very little is Visible to the investors, employees and the general public. Sad isn’t it
