Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Who's Leaking all the Info?

How come that we had so many people aware that the cuts will be happening today (2/26)...

Look at two threads below, 9 days ago and 4 days ago. Both were on target.

I've been on this site since 2015, we were never this precise...

Who's leaking this stuff...

I am a 3 time Cisco employee...

That's quite an accomplishment.

There was a large 2,000 employee layoff in 2002. That predates me, so I don't know what it was called.
Then there was a reduction in 2008. It was called a workforce reduction or WFR.
Then there was the 6,500 employee reduction in 2011. It was also called a WFR.
Then there was the 1,300 employee reduction in 2012. Not sure what it was called as I was gone in '11.
Then there was the 4,000 employee reduction in 2013. It was called the limited restructuring or LR.
Then there was the 6,000 employee reduction in 2014. It was also called an LR.
Nothing happened in 2015 unless there were stealth cuts that were not announced.
Then there was the 5,500 employee reduction in 2016 called an LR, but limited seems a little inappropriate given the size of the reduction.
That LR was expanded by another 1,100 employees in 2017 making the designation limited even more inappropriate.
Then there was the announcement of approx 500 people being let go from CX back in 2018.

Since then, it's been stealth reductions where Cisco actively tries to prevent the total number of impacted people from being released.

Cisco Canada once again misses its Q2 numbers. It’s country manager misses the product number for the 6th consecutive quarter, and this time with a gap of 75M$ US. What a stellar performance under the current leadership. As a result, Cisco Canada lays off more sales focused individual contributors this morning.

I am a 3 time Cisco employee, a RIF is simply an industry term and I know perfectly well Cisco been calling it LRs since what... every year since 2011?

If Cisco keep on announcing LRs, no one would be interested in joining Cisco. Chambers was way better than this mathematician stooge.

LOL - no one is going to out their source. But also - whoever you are that is leaking this info - please continue. You're an unsung hero and you are keeping us all informed with enough time to consider our next steps. The way Cisco should be doing themselves.

Sure - some people may game the system if there were full transparency. But the vast majority of folks would just be grateful that they are being treated thoughtfully and fairly by a company they've put in years of work and value for and would be grateful for the extra couple weeks to apply to new positions and clean out/pass on their projects.

Lying, keeping secrets, and not sharing (info and otherwise) are things we were all supposed to learn not to do in kindergarten.

There are very senior people in the organization that are extremely chatty with their friends who are no longer in Cisco. Could name names but won't. I once interviewed with someone who was very good friends with a high up in Cisco, and during the interview she casually dropped the date of a RIF that was about to happen 2 weeks down the line.

Yes it was him.

He’s a director. He’ll tell you that he sits in Palo Alto while the workers sit in East Palo Alto.

Probably left list in bathroom when he was jerking off to Riffing people

Are the layoffs done. ? When would they be done?

Directors didn’t leak. You honestly think a person that worked/bartered/sacrificed to get that title would leak that info? Think up..
Disinformation, confusion, fear. What level creates that?

VPs and Up Knew...

What's an average number of people reporting to a VP (direct reports and folks direct reports manage)

Who TF are you to ask an anonymous messenger board who we are?
BTW, 9 days ago only VP/Director/HR knew the date.
Maybe it’s an HR corporate ploy to give all the small people a distraction?
As long as we live under the rule of $, layoffs and dealing with tech lead a holes will be a reality. Add to that the CCIE who thinks he can manage people... Hight performance vs low trust. Those people drag us down.

Some VPs and above knew about this LR over a month ago. Since this is an anonymous site, anyone can post. Hmmm, maybe am one of those VPs or higher ups.

I didn't really believe it. Why would they do the LR on Wed? It's always historically been on a Tue for the U.S. I expected people to be notified yesterday, not today.

...transparency is what we deserve.

But we're not going to get it. A director sent out an email saying "as usual" they would not discuss names or numbers of Cisco or BU impacted employees and that we should refrain from spreading rumors and get back to work.

I get not naming names. But they certainly should be transparent and give out the total #'s to k–l that rumor mill.

Hopefully people start leaking the numbers from their Appendix A that lists the age/job title/pay grade of impacted people by BU.
