Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Fired for bad eval??

Comanager here. Been on the outs with my peers since transferring to this store. Just received my eval....a bulls**t needs improvement.
I was then told that "unfortunately the company has decided not to move forward with any development neededs" and it just came down within the last 48 hours.
Anyone hear anything about this or experience this? I've been targeted for months and this seems like a stretch.

Thank you so much for the post on how the Home Office works.

Stating the obvious, this new grading or rating system is incredibly biased and unfair and will hurt Walmart for the long term when employees realize how it works. Any incentive one has to grow and prosper within the company will be squashed. They will not be able to retain talent if you are graded this way. It promotes and fosters favoritism.
It was also obvious the system had to be rigged against all the ASM's and CO's reporting on here how evals all of a sudden changed and they are terminated. What I don't understand is why the company did not simply say to all the ones terminated: 'Sorry, there is a company initiatvie to reduce head count and your job will no longer exist so you are terminated. We thank you for your years of service to this company.'
Sure that would still hurt but it is at least done with some class, ethics, empathy, and dignity. But no, the company hides behind a false grading system and uses this excuse to throw long term dedicated employees out the door without even a thank you. This is just beyond belief.

The managers at corporate and the SM grunts doing this dirty work are setting a new bar for being despicable, unethical, immoral, and sleaze I have ever witnessed. I cannot imagine ever setting foot inside a Walmart store ever again after learning this about this company. Total disgust.

Terminated asm here. My only question is will we get the bonus. I've heard we will get paper check March 19th in the store

It's happening to me at Labs - after a nearly 20 year career and 2 years of above expectations - I got the needs improvement with the big fat 0 bonus. Completely subjective performance review where the only real change was the new manager giving it. My work didn't slip that dramatically....but apparently my ability to kiss up to manager did. To add to the frustration....my director and manager aren't even on the same page to why I got it. The ranking systems is completely against Sam's basic beliefs. Its sad to see how we are all playing the politics game in order to throw each other under bus now instead of working like teams. I've sent the last 2 year feeling like c-ap for getting a bigger bonus on the backs of my coworkers.....know I get to share my bonus this year. Good Luck to ll like me that are basically slaves to the system until I land another job.

Assistant manager. Got fired thursday for a bad eval that I never even got yet. Have not had any below standards evals ever and haven't been coached in over 13 years. Over 20 year associate only called in sick twice, can't even remember last time. Spreading around that we were let go for poor performance! No severance and little information. What a way to do business!

Yes Home Office has dictated if you receive a development needed on your evaluation your gone. After 18 years with the company I was let go as a ASM. I worked my tail off. Had surgery in September and now have heart condition. I was not given support by my Store Manager and did not receive any additional training to be successful.

10% - below expectations
75% - solid performer
15% - exceeds expectations
Is the model being used - The store manager gets all the SAY in the rankings - Mangers are getting solids to be saved that don't deserve it - They call in to miss work - They are not completing notes - They are not supporting their leadership - but are friends with store manager or they where promoted by that store manager so he keeps them so not to look bad on his selections.

Managers are being terminated that are truly committed to their work - the stay late - they are doing others notes - they are working their days off - they protect the brand in the face of adversity. No severance - no bad behaviour issues documented and it all comes down to if you kissed enough A$$ to keep the store manager happy with you. PERIOD !

That’s a total lie. I got a Solid on my eval and my Market Manager, who sat in on my eval along with SM told me when my pay increase will kick in. Also, NOT TRUE about ASMs being terminated not getting their bonus check.

My husband was let go yesterday. Almost 20 years with company. Showed up for work, rarely called in, worked days off. Other assistant shows up 2 hours late for shift on nightly basis, he's the favorite. That's what it comes down to, favorites!! Not who does the job!!
No severance pay, no offer to step down. Not a care in the world as to what's going to happen to this so called " family" member. Oh yeah. Saved on bonus too. They earned those bonus's. Companydoesn't pay them out if they fire you!!!

Sorry this is happening to you, but it seems to be a common practice for this organization-very unethical. I think this is happening to me, too. There are clues that I will no longer be a part of the team.

I posted this at another thread. This is how the Home Office works now. I added and removed stuff because I was the original poster:

The Home Office has gone to a burn and churn, aka forced rankings, aka the Hunger Games method for their evaluations.

Breaking it down, a certain % of associates are mandatorily ranked in the 5 groups of needs improvement, below expectations, meets expectations, exceed expectations and role model regardless of actual performance. Performance no longer matters much.

Now, these are hypothetical percentages (below( and I have no way to really know what they are but 15% are designated as needs improvement and will be termed; 10% will be below expectations and given a slim chance to improve; and 64% will be ranked as meets expectations. These bottom 3 ranks will get no pay increase. 10% will be ranked above expectations and get some semblance of a pay raise while the remaining 1% get the promotions and higher pay raises.

This is how it works. I was witness to this at the Home Office. I saw associates of 20+ years with exceeds expectations or higher on every evaluation suddenly get a below expectations. How does an associate manage that after 20+ years in the Home Office? It's to get rid or people making too much money. Plus it encourages people to delude themselves into doing the jobs of three people for the bread crumbs they get from Walmart/Sam's in the slimmest of hopes they can be in that top 11%.

Not with Walmart here. But I know a young guy in his mid twenties in Houston area. Night shift manager. Promoted to day shift then a week later said sorry the day job doesn’t exist and no you can’t have your old job at night back. So he thought he was going to be promoted and that’s what they promised but in a weeks time no job at all! Pretty cold I’d say. So yes they aren’t the best to staff !! And this example is the only one I know of. So sorry that happened to you......
