Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

More Layoffs??

I feel like more layoffs are coming soon. Things are still feeling shady with the hiring freeze/travel ban/no OT. Has anyone heard anything else is coming after Hilliard?

To the person who asked "How did the corona virus even enter as a topic of this thread? " , It's obvious, people such as you who comment about it. Your choice to scroll past or layoff of it.

To the person questioning medical degrees, where did you get yours? Honestly people believe everything they read in the media. How did the corona virus even enter as a topic of this thread?

Verizon is dumping money on 5g, and will do everything they can to save money and make cuts if needed. This is not new. Remember when they cut one SM from every store and the ops specialist. They fight so hard to keep union from happening because they want to be free of making these changes. We are the blind ones that allow this to happen. This hiring freeze is only the beginning.

The doctor who said "I don't understand all the hype about the corona virus. " , where did you get your medical degree? You're on a layoff site talking about something you know nothing about.

IT is staffed by a slew of H1Bs who have no idea what they are doing. They chased all the homegrown talent, with decades of experience, away to save a few bucks and now every project is a giant “Charlie Foxtrot” .

In IT being understaffed is a myth. We don’t have enough people who could actually do the work.

re: "Corona is no more deadly than that." (flu)

That is just not true. Coronavirus is anywhere from 20-40 times more deadly than influenza. Presently the population size of people contracting the flu is much larger than that of those contracting coronavirus, ergo vastly more people have died from flu.

Verizon is a Toxic place to work. Will be for 5 more years or when ATT buys us out. Get out while you can on your own terms vs Verizons

This is going to be an extremely difficult year for VZ. It’s not worth the effort to go for “leading” when you only get a 4% annual increase. STI is sure to be a sh** show also for 2020. Good luck VZ. I’m out.

Well, 500 were just given the axe at Hilliard. Over a thousand contractors have been shown the door in Shanks $Sh– Show GTS so far this year. Stores are closing left and right. I would say the OP's question has already been answered as employee liquidation is BAU for Verlieson.

@1qrj+13Fx14wV I don't understand all the hype about the corona virus. We have vaccines for influenza and yet the US has already had over 16,000 deaths and 280,000 hospitalizations this year from the flu. A total of 29 million people have gotten ill even though there is a vaccine. Corona is no more deadly than that.

Hans “make India great again” wants us to use more of our vaca per leadership.

It’s a trick folks; the more vacation u use - the less they have to pay out when they layoff

Verizon need two cut 5 bill more befo 2021. think about that

i would do minimum work as possible (while we steal here) as the inevitable ax is coming. Might as well get them before they get us. Don’t stress, take the check, severance meanwhile telling them to F themselves

My department director implicitly told us via an Organizational chart that we need to lose ~15 people this year in order to make budget. That number could likely be acquired via RIF or by people applying and transitioning to departments in need.

I'm glad they did it this way as it gives everybody some time to prepare for what is coming.

The guys at the top don't care if your group doesn't have enough people to do the job. All they care is about meeting the quarterly numbers. If they can't meet the numbers, then they have to let go people. This happens in all companies. And with the virus going around, manufacturing and services will slow down, stock markets will go up and down drastically, people will not be able to go to work and get laid off because corps can't meet the numbers, prices of food will be high, social gatherings will be shut down, travel will be restricted, house pets will be affected if they catch the virus and can spread it, mail will stop (since virus can live on hard surfaces for up to 9 days), cash/coin exchange will stop since this is another means of transmission since virus survives for 9 days on hard surface, Let's hope all the scientists/researchers/doctors/healthcare workers/pharms come up with a vaccine soon. Today, China said there was a decline in the number of cases, but can those numbers be trusted since this is the third time they have change their counting method. (Either you have it or don't - how hard is it to count that.) Even the birds are dying due to the disinfectant used in China. So far, USA has been able to control it but one loose cannon and all bets are off. And now I'm thinking this virus can be carried in the air since yesterday some Korean teacher got it and there were no known cases in the area she lived. Some say, it's going to be like the flu season where during hotter months the virus will die. But MERS-COV has survived the hot months of Saudi Arabia which is in the same family as the SARS-COV-2 (new name for current coronavirus family of COVID-19 ). Also, not all disinfectants can k–l this virus since it's an "envelope" virus. Look up what an envelope virus is in google. I just learned that today. This can get bad really quickly if we don't find a vaccine for this soon. This has been happening for the past few years with H1N1, SARS, MERS, Ebola, and now SARS-COV-2. Pharms need to reinvest in antibiotics again. With global warming, we are going to see this more and more.

We are already understaffed. We can’t take two days in a row off because there is no backup. If they lay off anymore people, it will just be a bunch of managers/directors scrambling to deal with the situation.

I think more layoffs are coming too! everything is frozen and projects are barely going in.

Buttttt, after VSP and other forced layoffs over the years —- I struggle to c where more layoffs could come? There already doesn’t seem like there is much company left. 135,000 employees isn’t a high amount of people for a company serving 120 million customers.

i wish nothing but ill will for those leading this company...... too bad the media isn’t interested in giving them the bad PR they deserve
