Wish they would just spin off the hard wire/fiber side of the business. There is no synergy–different accounting/managing methods for Wireless vs. Media vs. Network. There is no savings generated rather 3 different entities fighting for resource all while trimming to trim an excess debt load.

They already sold the towers. Will they sell the stores next? Now let’s distance ourselves from wireline? Doesn’t sound like a lot of jobs will be left over there.
"There were many years where wireless couldn’t make it on its own and wirel8ne paid the bills. "
What years were those exactly?
Both have sustainable cash flows ... be smarter
Since they own both businesses what’s the benefit? You could create a situation where wireline operates at a loss so contract negotiations are impossible and the pension fund becomes unsustainable. I don’t like the idea of a separate company. There were many years where wireless couldn’t make it on its own and wirel8ne paid the bills.
The backhaul Network is just that ...A Network that is lease-able . How do you think Verizon Cell Towers are fed in Indianapolis-they lease the Network from ATT or the local provider......so yes the Wireless and the Wired Network are separate entities.
It’s only wireless between the mobile phone and the cell tower. After that point, everything is wired. These are not independent systems. Wireless doesn’t work without the fiber backhaul to deliver it.
Totally agree att has screwed up the fiber business and should sell to someone who will run it like it should be ran. Creative accounting isn’t working.
mobility is the only business that is worth anything and that is even in last place, hardwire businesses are dead, dtv is dead, hbo cant compete at $15/month with 180B in debt.
company is a failure
AT&T has a number of products that compete with each other. Landline telephony, Uverse telephony, cell phone, wireless home phone.
In TV, DirectTV, Uverse TV (supposedly being phased out) and OTT streaming product soon.
Internet - Uverse/DSL and Wireless.
That always looked like something that could be split up.
Media is Randall's favorite, so it isn't going anywhere. The problem is, after AT&T 19th century micromangement style stifles and destroys their media division, they will need the other neglected divisions to keep the company afloat.
Wireline paid the freight to run fiber to most of the cell towers in the midwest (Ameritech) region. Wireless should cut a large check for that work if they are tired of propping up the wireline side now.
Would be nice to separate and see what the monthly would be to lease those fibers back to wireless. Wireless would sh– a brick if they had real bills to be accountable for.
