the python material in my nanodegree was atrocious and the R was even worse.

The value of the nanodegree isn't the certificate of completion, it's the exposure to new skills/technologies that you probably wouldn't have otherwise gotten any kind of hands on experience with while at AT&T.

AT&T lied and made it sound like if you took the initiative to learn the new skills they would give you opportunities to transition into different job roles.

Yeah I went through one and the computer science class was a big waste of my own time. Already had it in school twenty years ago but it brush up on my python but I could of done that in a few hours so yeah they are usesless.

I admit I drank the deathstar koolaid, enrolled in and completed a nanodegree.

And it means nothing. Nobody cares.

It was good to learn a new skill, but it looks like the only way I will ever apply that new knowledge is in a job outside AT&T.

Seems like these are not widely accepted outside of off AT&T. So if you leave, be sure that along with your nano-degree you can highlight actual accomplishments as a result of having it. I think that will reinforce the credibility of the training you received with the degree. Probably good idea to do that with any credential really :).

I'm not a big fan of the nano-degree because I still feel it's not widely accepted. However, the article makes a good point about the ballooning cost of a college degree. Plus, if you already have a degree, why not just focus on the areas that matter. Kind of makes sense.

Propaganda might make sense for someone with a business degree but the way att does it is just a way to make people leave because you don’t make people with computer degrees go through programming again. That is just mo–nic unless you another agenda.
