Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

HAH Rosters

Rosters getting slammed with monitored to managed and transitions and new members at rate of 8 to 10 per day. Being set up to fail. Welcome to Humana at home where they treasure their nurses! Right! What a joke!

I think most of us are looking for new jobs because we know more lay offs are coming. Not to mention there definitely is better pay & treatment out there doing the same type of work. I just read that Humana has hired a bunch of new nurses yet they just laid off over 800 employees including nurses. It just doesn’t make any sense. Why do you think management is recommending that everyone get their CCM & or go back for their BSN if they don’t already have it? The managers are obviously worried about being laid off too since they are also getting their CCM’s & going back to school too. The writing is on the wall.

With Kindred doing some of HAH post discharges for our telephonic members I sense more layoffs for us next year

I hear you! 20 new ones in 4 days while can only graduate 2 or less per week. Not reasonable expectations. Period.

Several of you posting sound like managers parroting that tired old line, of working like drones, “don’t complain, be grateful you have jobs, etc.” Typical management manipulation tools. Then there is the not so subtle fear mongering “ or else.” I have been in management for over 34 years and recognize these classic management lines of manipulation, all managers are trained to use. Nurses can and should expect reasonable job expectations, experience job satisfaction not dread going to work, and freedom to speak up for themselves without fear of retaliation or being labeled as trouble makers. The corporate world has decades of experience in how to control and manipulate their employees ( note I use that word a lot because that is exactly what it is). Upper and middle management speak out of both sides of their mouths. They talk work-life balance on the one hand and then see how far they can push employees until the employees get fed up and finally push back. Don’t fool yourself colleagues, it’s not about the patient or you, it’s about the almighty bottom line and profit. And bonuses for management who meet company goals. If I sound cynical I am. I refuse to lie to promote corporate greed just so I can line my own pockets. Nurses, there are plenty of at home case managers out there if you want to jump ship. Better paying and more humane employers. Don’t let your fear of job security keep you from testing the waters...

Believe it or not, nothing good about being left on a sinking ship ,over worked and under appreciated. Those of us left ,know it’s only a matter of time, until we are RIF’d. This next round, will take out the rest of us ,along with managers and directors.

Well since we are capped at 50 that means at end of week you will be at capacity. Is it difficult, yes. Is it practically impossible to get it done in time frames, absolutely. Best advice, do the best you can. Odds are we will have another layoff in beginning of year. So choose which stress you want...a full caseload or looking for another job.

Your roster is capped, so yes if you are graduating members you are going to get new ones. It’s a job, that’s your role. Everyone complains complains complains.

OP, No disrespect intended here but you should be happy there is work! Over 800 people were RIFed and would be elated to have your problem right now. The way I see it, you’re being set up for success, not failure, especially when the alternative is unemployment!!
