Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Responding to do you think they care?

That IAM . Is a corporation.
It does not care about you As a railroad worker.. It represents many other aspects of the working society. It’s time to tell the union that you don’t want to pay dues anymore!
Make them aware that they are not working for anyone associated with the railroad. Top dogs in this “union”.? Only want to raise your dues and not do anything for you As a real Road employee. Send them a message. You don’t represent me anymore and I want my union dues eliminated and or reduced. Stop paying union dues! Good job Insurance. They still have to represent you in collective-bargaining. Send them a clear message.
Start standing up for me, Or lose more revenue.!

That is a false statement. You must pay dues to keep employment with NS. You don't know what you're talking about. You can get by without paying a percentage..But you must pay dues to be on a roster period

You will not get “canned” if you resign from full union membership. You can’t be a union officer but you are still paying a percentage and will still hold your seniority spot and the union will still have to negotiate, represent and file grievances on your behalf.

I'll repost part of my message again so you didn't pick up on it the 1st time!
I have used this coverage probably more than 90% of employees at NS

"My family has more than had to use our share of the coverage over the years...with childbirth, multiple surgeries"

The insurance we have is much better than most Americans. Sure it used to be free back in the day, but my hourly rate was $10 less than it is now too. I won't complain about it. My family has more than had to use our share of the coverage over the years...with childbirth, multiple surgeries, I feel blessed to have had our coverage. Not to mention when I'm in a doctors office on multiple occasions the less fortunate don't get seen as quickly as I do either. Yes, I won't b–ch and moan. Sure the RR has changed for the worse, but it still beats a lot of jobs out there!

Deductibles and copays dont add up to $700 a month ($700x12 months=$8400 a year not including there copays which are higher...) plus those people dont get dental or vision just healthcare ($232x12 months=$2784 a year) do your copays and sh– make up the $5616 difference?? Not including their copays and no dental or vision and the cost associated with all that?

How bad do we really have it?

Except that those dues you pay....are too yourself. For your union. You are the union. So when you say " the union isnt doing anything" " the union isnt fighting for us." Thats you brother. Get up off your a– and do more than "pay your dues to a union that you act like is a seperate entity or like it consists of 3 or 4 people elected to union office. YOU are the Union Brother. If the unions failing its because of members that think theres nothing more to it than paying dues and going home and waiting for someone else to blame. All those picures you see of Union Strong days gone by....pretty sure there were more than 3 or 4 officers standing at the locked gates fighting for Brotherhood. It was every body. Period.

Haha $232/month you say.... no mention of the deductibles, copays, etc. It’s pretty terrible considering what we had not too long ago. Just another “perk” taken away, no biggie

Why does no one realize that the proper spelling of the word should be too? Example. Too much. Two of these. Going to the government cheese line.

Who says I am now. Thats just the truth on everything at my old shop. The dedication they want will not come from miserable employees. Everyone b-t-ching about everyone else will Never make a difference. I wish everyone the best.

I hear what you're saying. Question is, why do you keep coming in each day then? Makes no sense to me at all!

So forced overtime without calling overtime, pick you vacation at the beginning of every year, forced on holidays, no weekends off, not a chance at day shift , they want concessions on pay because we make to much and for us to pay more for insurance. After 20 or 30 yrs of this you might have a chance at working thru the problem of getting your retirement. Oh yeah sorry pay every month so that you can maintain this life style. So what drives the want for this life style? Question the union and they say, they can do what they want. It really is or must be a relief to be away from so much stacked up negative. There is a good life outside the railroad!

Yes but 12 to 15 bucks from enough does make a difference. There is no other way to get a point across, if so express it.

That is true. But it only reduces it by between $12-$15. This allows you to not have pay political garbage, etc. If that's worth it, go for it!

You can do reduced dues and maintain.

I agree with "Another"....but furthermore, if you don't pay dues (atleast the majority of them) you don't hold seniority....In turn, which means you don't have a job because you won't be on a roster. So just quitting dues will just get you canned anyways!

That would be a no from me. I happen to b–ch about the union a bit like everyone else, but with the company trying to fire anybody and everyone that they can over the most minuscule things nowadays, I wouldn't want any reason for the union to not want me and not fight for me over some dumb trivial case the railroad tries to fire me for.
