Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

If executives think expenses are a problem

Then why don't they lay themselves off instead of attacking the livelihood of others?

You must be new here , to America that is, this is how capitalism works, the "Kings" of industry make the rules and as others have said worker bees are just costs on the balance sheet. If they could they're would be no labor just automation to line their Bank accounts.

Problem is Americans were sold on the Puritan work ethic of hard work=success, that might have worked back 200 years ago when your physical and mental toil had a direct impact , but in today's mega connected and technological world it's the people who get other people to do the work that make the big bucks.. some as that.

Because they are the decision makers, and they more or less own you while you work for them. You are a number to them. You are at risk when you cost more than they like.

I left AT&T this year , so they stopped owning me. I am now owned by a different corporation. The difference is this one is a growing company with better opportunities.

S— it up or leave. Good luck.

And what would you do if you were running a business that has parts drying up? You can't just keep people employed if they have nothing to do that's good for the business.

  • syq Don't forget the "free" security (paid for by the shareholders) to help them walk from A to B and keep them out of the public eye if/when they partake in things they should not.

You’re talking about giving up a free car, free care insurance, free car repair, free gasoline, free country club memberships, free cell phones for the family, free cable TV, free parking, free medical, free tax preparation, free alarm systems, access to the private jet at minimal cost, use of the company charge card for personal expenses, unlimited per diem while on company business.

Why would Executives lay themselves off!

The layoffs are about stock buybacks, not about debt. Buybacks make the executives richer, paying down debt only convinces stockholders not to sell
