I've seen instances where Enbridge has made people retire instead of laying them off. Is there any recourse for this? Their manager files a complaint for something that has been a normal procedure in the past and then they use it to force them to retire. It seems they don't want to pay the severances. Its pretty sad because these people have stuck around through good times and bad times and then they are treating them so horrible. Enbridge seems to be so unethical these days.

If they are looking for voluntary retirements, I would throw my hat in the ring.
I have never seen morale so low in Calgary. Same Edmonton.
Company moral is so low Duluth/ Superior had to cancel the Christmas party due to lack of interest.
Loyalty is lost at Enbridge !!
Some are eating the company spiked pie and sh–ting hoorays !!
I have no appetite left for emptiness of the greedy ELT that serves up lies.
How do you know that sound business arguments on workload were presented?
I keep hearing that we are over staffed and not efficient.
Record profits, most oil ever in our pipelines, stock over $50 again.... and the ELT cut people and positions in November. I was told the ELT had to make their numbers even though sound business arguments on workload and alternatives were presented. This makes no sense??? How does a company expect it's employees to give 100% and be loyal to the company when the company treats their employees as expendable assets. This is NOT how great companies are run. Ask Microsoft, Southwest Airlines, Virgin, etc. Very sad.
Enbridge is filled with employees who are only there for the pay cheque. We don’t take pride in the company anymore.
If you hate this company, you need to change companies ASAP. Life is short
Why so much hatred?
If they are looking for voluntary retirements, I would throw my hat in the ring. I hate this company, can’t defend it, and certainly do not want to help it.
If anyone has been forced to retire, and this does happen, they are still paid severance. Calling it "retirement" vs. "firing" or "layoff" is often just semantics and done for the employees benefit to manage the optics of their exit. If someone was actually forced out without financial compensation then they should be talking to a lawyer to understand what course of action is available to them.
Former Spectra employee here, I have seen initiatives where they put out a call for voluntary early retirement. I don't know why this isn't done more often.
