Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Cabinet and Appliance Specialists gone

Along with the new changes, Appliance specialists are being replaced by Pacific Sales, yes, 3rd party! Also cabinet specialists are being replaced by in house Vendor reps. At at least with the vendors and Pacific Sales, applications will be accepted starting on January 20 for current Lowe's employees that wish to apply. Expect more communication on this shortly.

Well all I can say if this change comes to fruition then I would strongly encourage my fellow specialists to think twice before applying. It would make a certain amount of sense for Lowe’s to offer up some sort of BS smoke and mirrors replacement plan for those who are most likely to be hit hard by the pending allowance loss. I will however remind those affected of the old saying:

“fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

Point I am trying to make; whatever corporate promises you today can be amended or rescinded tomorrow. Lowe’s now has an undeniable track record of doing just that. By all means continue to do the job for which you were hired but at the same time look out for the dagger pointed towards your back.

I doubt this is true. I am a cabinet specialist in a rural area and the appliance department kicks a– and the two of us designing are the only two in the entire store, including managers, that know how to do it. Vendors do not know either and we never see them. We are getting a reset March 1st. So we will see. But if I drive 30 minutes south I can do the same job for 20-30k more. This is b—s— in my opinion.

LMAO. Previous poster, "Most specialists are just order takers, not salespeople". Really? Personally well over a million in sales in each of my last eight years, close to 1.8 million in sales in 2018, numbers still to be reported for 2019 but should be even higher. Lost count of all the customers that said they were "just looking" only to feel impressed enough with my breadth of knowledge and personal interaction to be purchasing a complete set of appliances from me less than an hour later. Ditto on referrals. My numbers are significantly above my markets average. That all comes on top of me personally setting most of the appliance plan-o-grams, staging Sterling & install orders, doing IRPs/DSR/maintaining dept, answering 25+ phone calls in an average shift and dealing with more customer care issues than many ASM's have to deal with.

It's attitudes such as the previous poster which tells us we are working for an organization that has little to no appreciation for those that are actually bringing in the money and have helped establish intense customer loyalty. Personally doing approximately twice my sales volume as I was during my "allowance" baseline calculation year and will be making less come Feb 1 (after the allowance is removed) than I was making 10 years ago at Lowe's. Of course that's assuming Lowe's doesn't eliminate my "specialist" position first. Talk about total lack of corporate gratitude or ethics towards it's employees. With each passing day I recognize this company that I have worked tirelessly for less and less. If this corporate train continues on this track of totally disrespecting its employees not only will they continue to loose valuable employees but customers as well.

Most "specialists" are just order takers, not salespeople. Just like they have the vendors pay for the MST team, they will be paying for the new "specialist" program. "The future is now" that is the corporate headquarters unofficial motto, it signifies the rapid pace of change taking place.

Cabinet Reps wouldn’t work for the low pay and terrible schedule Lowe’s offers. Why, because they don’t have to!

Would Lowe’s eliminate cabinet specialists, absolutely. Are the cabinet companies going to provide personnel and manage Lowe’s business, NO!

Region One has a new appliance fulfillment distribution center in Shippensburg, PA.
Lowe's owns it, Penske manages it.

Pacific Sales is owned by Best Buy. I know this as they have tried in the past to recruit me from Lowe's. Lowe's has already been opening third party Appliance Distribution Centers (ADCs) that handle only appliances. In my area, central FL, they have also opened up a cross dock facility (XDT) where the ADC ships the majority of the appliances sold by the stores for pickup/delivery by a third party delivery service (XPO). Feel free to check me as our ADC designation is 3374 and our cross dock is 3434. By doing so they are attempting to take the bulk of the burden/overhead off the stores but its roll out has not been nearly as smooth as they may have expected. Vast sums of money has been spent rolling out this process and if you are telling me Lowe's is about to throw in the towel and subcontract all this to Best Buy/Pacific Sales then this company is even further gone than any of us could imagine. By the way Best Buy is in distant third place behind Lowe's who is the national leader in appliance sales and its highly doubtful they could handle our volume with their existing infrastructure. However, if Lowe's keeps up its antics both Best Buy and Home Depot will continue to eat into our appliance market share without having to due a darn thing to earn it.

My GM is leaving in about another week so he told a few of us the exact same thing when we asked! He is not leaving on bad terms and has been with Lowe's for 12 years so pretty believable.

Agreed. Appliances is the money maker. Corporate is also looking to have appliance only distribution centers with product delivered directly to customers’ homes.

BS. Best Buy owns Pac Sales. No way Marvs giving the biggest part of his business to Best Buy. Not because hes too smart to do this, but because Depot didn't do it first. Try another scenario troll.
