Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Going, Going...

Oh Boy! It seems I that my predictions are starting to come to true. selling off property, more stores closing, layoffs. When to start worrying is when the company falls under 1000 stores. Then the next adjustments start. Moving managers around, associates go to the wayside. I have several ideas which can work if anybody wants to listen. But that will not happen. It seems that the new CEO was hired not to save the company but to give it a slow agonizing death... ATTU BRUTE!

Still very quiet in the stores... What is corporate doing to get the customers back?

Went into the same store yesterday, very empty of merchandise. Usually top stock looks like a nightmare, now, practically nothing on top. Columns were only half full. And found one associate doing the truck which was one u boat of pillows. Saw the new Bee and Willow stuff, didn't look much different from the old stuff. Looking for some window treatments behind the displays, what a mess. A few empty packages. Even bridal registry, had a couple of broken glasses and chipped plates floating around. The store that once gleamed with pride in the district has turned to a cold hollow shell. Sad.

Walked into the flagship store, very quiet. Associates just walking around, nobody asked if I needed help. Even the two managers in the store (whom I knew) didn't approach. I finally went up to one and asked what's going on? they were waiting to see who the next person was that was going to be axed. I found out that it was another full timer. They are cutting back one person at a time from the districts by the looks of it. Anything to save a few dollars. Sad, very sad.

Even with the stores being shutdown, properties sold, managers being transferred and associates getting discarded. Will it still be enough to save the company as a whole? The turnaround I saw years ago with the remodeling of stores and going high-end on products instead keeping with standard pricing was the first of the downsizing, The second was the 20% beyond plus, it should have been only for in store purchasing. that keeps the customers coming in. Why bother coming to a store when you get the 20% off and no charge for shipping. Come on people … See the Light

I also worked at sears, it was a good long lasting company until greed, came into play. I worked the kids department, sales in baby hard lines was down immensely. I manage to turned that around within 2 months. My manager got a $5000 bonus. I got squat. She was then let go along with 2500 executives and managers. That was when the downsizing started. look where they are now. After I was yelled at for helping customers, I quit. Went to Linens N Things. That was a great company Until the CEO sold it for $1.35 billion, down hill after that (it didn't take long). Now BBB is heading in the same direction. get rid of exec's, managers, and those associates who do the dirty work. It's a shame, I liked BBB.

That’s like selling your house to someone then paying rent. Worked out for Sears

They should have closed stores years ago. They are over saturated in so many markets. The prior sleazy management didn’t have the common sense to scale down. Selling the property gives them the opportunity to right size Union and sell off the nepotistic businesses of Buy Buy Baby and Chef Central. Cut all the ties to the previous horrific administration and this pig may be salvageable.
