Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Seriously?

Our asa/ssa has been hitting up employees for donations, $5 suggested, to buy our new store manager a winter coat for Christmas.

Seriously?

The guy moved here from the south and doesn’t have a winter coat. But he also makes the most money in the store so I’ll pass.

This is just someone trying to do a nice thing but completely missing how tone deaf it is and how it will be received by other hourlies. It’s not even worth discussing. Someone tell that ASA that what they’re trying to do is very inappropriate, and move on.

I think Marvin should buy the manager a coat from the close out rack at JC Penney.

To the poster who thinks a coat for Lowes Mgmt should cost $1,000-1,500 and associates even at the lowest pay scale (barely above minimum wage) should contribute, what planet do you live on? Unless he/she wears their red vest over that $1,500 coat, most customers won't know it's the SM going to/ from Car. Next we should start donating so they can wear custom made $2,000 suits.

Why does he need a winter coat to walk from the heated car to the heated office? If it's that bad what is layering for 500 Alex.

Actually it is perfectly reasonable. The store manager should be dressed nice, he is the figurehead for the store. As such a proper winter coat will likely run between 1-1.5 thousand. That is a lot of money out of his pocket, if your store has 150 employees and you each donate an average of $10 you could get him a really nice coat. The people complaining sound cheap and petty, If I was your store manager I would fire the lot of you.

I would buy him one of those Ken/Barbie sized coats and put it in the tiniest box of the person who asked me for the $5. WTF they have some goddamn nerve. I guess their a– kissing isn't working enough so this is their next chance to be the ultimate brown noser. Maybe you can buy some pants with the a– cut out with a note that says, "stop being an a– kisser, he an afford his own coat".

Get him a nice "official" NFL jacket. Don't we have lots of them sitting around?

Dude, I lived in Florida. When it hits 70, they got winter coats and gloves on

Just because he's from the south, don't mean he got no coat.

That Jesus Christ post must be Marvin or his buddy McFarland. Who else would thing it’s acceptable for the lowest paid employees to but the highest paid employee a gift.

speaking of jesus christ......how about the store manager be a true leader and example and find some poor associate perhaps who has children and offer to buy them a coat they probably cant afford!

reminds me of a suggestion i read about "paying it forward" at starbucks.......stop paying it forward to the next person able to afford overpriced coffee and instead pay it forward by giving that money to the poor worker making next to nothing!

The lowest paid people in the store should not be pressured into buying gift for highest paid employee. Would be different if it was a collection box in break room, but asking in person makes people feel they have to. You know they keep track.

Jesus Christ people it’s not charity. It’s an associate who wants to do something nice for their supervisor for Christmas. I’m sure he can afford his own coat but he’s not asking for a new coat now is he?? If you don’t want to contribute then don’t but don’t imply that a Christmas gift from a team is charity because he can’t or won’t buy his own....

I’d just laugh at that one. Nope, you cut hours and expect charity.

Dude can buy his own coat. He should have done due diligence when he agreed to take the job. Store Managers, most making 100k+ don't need charity.

wtf! guy probably makes 6 figures.....im sure he can handle it. furthermore the stores defacto HR shouldnt be soliciting money from subordinates for the boss of the store. if associates cant solicit to other hourlies because it puts them in awkward situations.....how much worse is it when youre suppose to be giving to the guy who fires you!
