Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Pension and MVO

Contemplating MVO. I don’t feel the monthly annuity is a safe option . Most people are taking Lump Sum right? Is it because the pension is funded with AT&T stock? Thoughts plus or minus which way to go? Financial advisor said take the annuity and the Pension Guarantee fund would bail out if ATT went bankrupt. I’m thinking get out of all things T. What do you think? I’m too old to screw this up and am MR75 and want to retire just couldn’t but close to now.

Take the lump and Invest it. Even in a conservative fund , it’ll perform better for you than the annuity. Your goal is to just draw on the interest it earns.

Yeah take the lump sum that is what I did. Don’t think att will go belly up but I don’t trust att because they can get what they want by creating legislation. Look at the recent bill that was created that would allow landlines to just go away something like 20 states so the big t would not have to support them anymore. They call the shots and I took it just because I don’t want anything to do with them. Once I switch my mobile service they will not get any more of my money. Everyone I recommended t products to when I worked there are all using somebody else now and I tell all my daughter’s college friends to stay clear of att work wise and to look at this site and spread it around so hopefully no one has to go through what t does to you. Tons of much better companies to work for and that appreciate you and at treat you like a human.

Take the lump sum and get your own annuity. If the plan goes belly up and the government takes over your benefits will be slashed!! With the debt load, shrinking markets, high overhead and high legacy costs AT&T has a lot of head winds in front of it!!
