My, how things have changed. It’s been 6 long years of making the cut, just to discover there is no end to the layoffs. I’ve been studying and updating my skills, and before the end of next year I will have the certification required to make a change. I can no longer be complacent and rely on my hard work and knowledge. It’s clear to me, AT&T Is no longer where I want to be.

And that is why this economic system is increasingly only good for the wealthy. But people are catching on. Corporations, no matter what the supreme court might say do not have natural rights the way humans do. Their existence is only guaranteed by laws made by citizens. Without limited liability there would be no corporations. As a result, we the people, when we have had enough can regulate them as we wish. The only reason Corporations exist is because of the benefit to society as a whole. When enough people realize how badly they need to be reigned in, they will be. It won't be pretty. In fact it is already not pretty. Whatever you may feel about Trump the reason he is where he is today is because American corporations abandoned the rust belt. It will get worse before it gets better but when the majority realizes how badly we have been served by our "democracy" there will be some serious ugliness.
There is no way the government is going to do a thing about insourcing. They make way too much every year on visa fees.

Even with the employee discount they are charging more than if you shopped around with other providers for mobility and home security if anyone still has digital life. Didn’t know this until I was outsourced and looked around. Paying a lot less now for mobility and home security. The $10 a month dtv or att now is a good discount. got to wonder how long that will last.
Just remember to cancel all of your AT&T services the day they kick you to the cue because they’ll immediately charge you the standard rates. In that case I’d recommend all of my friends and family leave AT&T.
25 years here, been a great run. Just waiting to be laid off. Still like my job, salary, and PTO. Have some good inroads to the next gig when the time comes. Thinking that's very likely to be 2020.
I too joined the company around the same time. While I never expected”lifetime” employment, I knew that ATT had a reputation for stability. However, I left the company earlier this year.
What I found over time was the company shifted from narrower, almost local or regional focus to more of a national one. Which is part of the business, I freely admit.
However, the company did not adapt well over time. Specifically, my group and many others had team members spread out all over the country. You could get work done, sure, but over time, I realized I was basically working with voices and emails. The last 10 years I was with the company I never actually met my bosses or my coworkers.
Additionally, the company has lost its focus. Used to be, all ATT did was communications. I thought getting into video (Uverse) was a bit of a stretch, but it used the existing communications network. OK.
Now I see strange commercials on TV that seem more suited for Hollywood or some other product. Then it has “ATT” at the end. I don’t get it, as a consumer, and no one else I know gets it either. This is a problem.
What ultimately pushed me out, though, was the end of telecommuting in the interests of “collBoration” with coworkers in the office. Again, over time, most folks had geographically diverse teams not located in the same offices or states. So coming into an office changed nothing in terms of interacting with coworkers. Then they started gaslighting all of us saying, you don’t have to stay in the office all day, or no one is watching the VPN logs, but you still have to scan in and log into the office daily. It was irrational.
The company is adrift with no clear vision and an inability to recognize what kind of company and culture it’s chosen to have over time. Morale is in the dumpster with what has become regular layoffs.
I’m grateful for ever day I’m out of there, and I Post here to encourage others to get out if you can. There is life outside ATT.
So true, @JYX. We now have in place tariffs to protect American production from cheap imported junk. But what about the service workers? What about intellectual work? There needs to be some form of tariff applied to unethical corporations like AT&T that betray the American people and outsource their work to cheap sweatshops in India and Slovakia.
The reality is that the market place has changed a lot.
AT&T now looks at you as a burden because your job can be off-shored to India at a fraction of your current salary and benefits. Those re-badging to Tech-M and others are just another way of layoff.
The only way this can change is if government enact tariffs on imported labor. Just like there is tariffs on imported goods. Software should be treated like any other goods. If Not, AT&T and other will become a bee hive for psychopaths and a$$ki$$ers waiting for the the Industry to be upended just like the Iphone upended mobility.
What you can do it this: If you're doing meaningful work and gaining marketable experience, ignore the chatter and soldier on. What will happen is largely beyond your control.
If you're doing junk work to please your superiors, then you are hurting your carrier prospects sooner or later.
Although there is certainly emotion involved, kuddos for remaining calm and logical and seeing the bigger picture. Smart thinking. It's not your fault being forced to take drastic measures. Good luck. Keep the mentality and faith and you'll land on your feet, probably far better off.
