Way back when I first started, we used to get department bonuses if we performed well. Some of us worked our tails off to get results and the spiffs and commissions were a reward from the Vendors. Then the monthly bonuses went away...a pay cut.
Then Lowe's decided to take away the spiffs and commissions and I took a huge hit but decided to stay because they "Promised" us that we would get the compensation as long as we stayed with the company and did not take a salaried position, but still another pay cut.
Some of us took on Department Manager positions to help ease that pay cut. Then they eliminated the Department Manager position...another pay cut.
Now, they are taking away what was promised to us. I stayed because I love what I do and the difference I could make, but with this latest cut, I am now making less than I did 14 years ago. It baffles me how a Fortune 50 company can treat the people that got them there so poorly. I don't know who is actually making these decisions, but it's clear that they don't keep their promises and don't care about me. I know the decisions are all made based on "the bottom line", but the bottom line is this...
I used to think that Lowe's was a great place to work and I still love what I do, but I can't afford to keep going backward and Lowe's is going to lose a lot of good people that have helped them get to where they are.
