Nowadays, job posting costs literally zero. Write it up, post it and wait for the resumes to roll in. No advertising costs like it was preInternet. How would you know if the 2,000 new jobs is for real? Oracle has thousands of jobs posted already. How do you know if this is just a ruse to generate press coverage? Based on what we know about Oracle’s past behavior and untrustworthy behavior, don’t put all your eggs in this basket. Agree or disagree?

buh-bye, developers are a dime a dozen and often are on sale. Huge over supply of sw eng/dev in usa. Good luck getting a job with oracle on your resume. Read the crummy comments about deadwood on this fourm - that's what your colleagues think about the people they see everyday and eat lunch with. wow
Yeah, it seems unlikely that they are really going to hire 2000 new people in OCI. LE just said his focus was no long er on cloud. It's on database and financial applications. Cloud is gone. I think he does not want to really put the money and effort into building something for real.
OCI is cloud infrastructure. That is the part that is no longer needed given LE's mindset. I think it will decline.
They could be making the announcement of 2000 jobs now, but really what will happen is they will continue to layoff people in the U.S., and hire replacements in India or somewhere cheap. That's what happened to on-premise.
That way they can say they really hired 2000 people, even though that is not really what happens.
These guys are always telling half-truths. They put in the part that makes things look good and keep out the part that doesn't, glossing over that later.
If you are in OCI I would just about bet anything that you find that they will start supplementing the people in your group with people from India (or elsewhere). They will say they can hire more people that way. As they put more people in from India, it means late-night and early-morning meetings and more people in the U.S. will quit. They will then hire a couple more people from India. When they reach critical mass, enough people in India who know the code, then they layoff the rest of the group in the U.S.
This is exactly what happened to on-premise. It will happen to OCI too, I am willing to bet on it. Same playbook for disaster, over and over again.
It’s more like Oracle is replacing 2000 American employees with 2000 cheaper work visa employees
I really think this new jobs thing is just smoke and mirrors. Think about it, as you say it cost them absolutely nothing to just say "Oh yeah, we are hiring 2000 people"; They have declined to comment further on any other site when asked about it. They never said how long will it take to open the positions, which OCI teams will the positions will focus on and don't forget they can freeze or cancel the open positions anytime they want. I really think is an absurd waste of time and money if they were to do that. It takes at least 6 months to train a new guy, and 7 months have past since the OCI layoffs wouldn't it have been better to use that time to train the guys that were cut out instead of new hires?
