I was a contract employee that was at 65k
It took me many years to reach that however, I was contract for 18 years.
All of my time was with GM, I do know some contract went direct but I think that depends on the manager you have to make it happen.

Leave Ms Mary alone. She is the epitome of the perfect employee, female, diverse, smiles a lot, gets along with everyone, is still underpaid, and was selected by a bunch of men. Now she can make GM worse by putting her brand all throughout management. It's the best thing she can do for GM. Just let this company sink and sink and sink into disaster.

Sorry but 14,000 lost jobs x $50,000 a year is $700,000,000, a bit more than Ms. Barra is making.

Also I doubt all the people laid off were making $50K, new college hires were starting at Level 5 which is $60K.

GM is not to blame. There are many customers waiting on the cars that they have ordered. In fact the targeted production week has been pushed back on some.

My buddy at Moodys says that GM's bonds are slated to go into junk bond status this week. Wonder if MB is proud of taking a once iconic company and dragging it into the dumpster.

I would expect more layoffs after this strike so that MB can still make her bonus numbers... I would expect atleast 2000 can be shed easily if they are planning to shut 3 more plants...

Dan Akerson picked Mary Barra to get even with GM. That it was politically correct was bonus.

He was a hedge fund manager who was gifted the job.

Any one who has spent time at GM knows the most important trait to climbing up the ladder is being a sycophant to those above you.

It’s been that way for decades.

MB did her share to get where she was. Now, she figures she’s entitled to do as she pleases. So, she’s betting the company on electric vehicles and autonomous.

It’s a long shot, but if it works she’ll be historically significant.. Big ego boost.

And if not, oh well.

As part of the bankruptcy deal, the union agreed not to strike—in 2015. As part of that deal, the union accepted the 3-tier system of temps, new “in progression hires” as well as what remained of the pre-bankruptcy workforce. This was done to preserve the pay and benefits of the pre-bankruptcy workers.

The bailout did NOT address executive compensation however; only labor costs.

Is MB really worth $24 million? In general, are US CEOs worth that kind of money? On the other hand, pro athletes make that kind of money

The boards of directors are incestuous.. CEOs and execs sitting on each other’s boards, scratching each other’s back

I wanna seat on GMs board! They make $300,000 a year for 4 meetings in nice locations, to approve dubious strategic decisions, like abandoning small cars in the US (because GM can import then from Mexico) as if fuel will always be cheap, or investing billions in this electric vision that won’t happen unless the government forces it.

Yep, MB and her sycophants vs the tainted UAW leadership. The former gripped by self-delusion, the latter deluding their workers (and probably themselves).

And in their gut, most people know that the people at the top are self-serving.

It's her job to put shareholder interests first. Unfortunately, Mary has been maximizing shareholder value while giving the middle finger to GM's customers, employees, the UAW, and the communities where GM operates.

As long as she gets paid $20M per year, she doesn't care. I wouldn't want to run across her in the supermarket..

Mary Barra has had it very easy for much of her tenure as CEO and skated by with mediocrity because she happened to take on the role at a time of historically low oil prices, record auto sales and surging consumer demand for highly profitable SUVs/Trucks.

With oil prices possibly getting ready to surge soon (thanks to increasing geopolitic instability), a recession on the horizon and growing trade tensions, her "leadership" skills are really being put to the test.

Her recent decisions to completely forego global market share (putting the long-term health of the company at risk), engage in mass layoffs and the way she's flubbed these UAW negotiations seems to reveal she's nor the wonder woman we all thought. Instead, she seems to be quickly turning into a Roger Smith and Robert Stemple.

Everything you said is true, I will never support GM again buying anything they make.
I grew up at GM from 22 to 42, I loved it there but now I'm done.
They are damaged goods and have destroyed the company. CEO and CFO have done absolutely nothing of value for anyone but themselves, self serving.
Many families lives have been ruined.

Mary Barra made some critical mistakes that will happen soon.

  1. Un-American, we don't want cars built in another country.
  2. $22M Salary = 14,000 lost jobs x $50,000 a year
  3. Challenging the President of the United States, thinking she is more powerful.
  4. Turning loyal customers into not trusting the company anymore and looking at other brands
  5. 2007 there were 74,000 UAW on strike, 2019 there are 48,000 UAW on strike = 26,000 lost American Jobs
  6. Allowed the Super PAC to come into GM that is Democrat
  7. Invested in China before the United States, UN-AMERICAN

We know who GM is now and don't like them, and they have lost our trust, where we don't have the desire and ability to buy their product anymore.
