Store level lay-off at NYU

Today 45 part time Team Member 1’s were let go effective immediately at NYU (Store 2015.) Union Staff, Management & current seasonal employees (less than 90 days) are all that’s left.

“Moving to a seasonal / temporary employee model.”
“It’s an opportunity to discover new efficiencies.”
“We know that customer service will suffer.”

Director RS reportedly crying in multiple meetings with Staff, Management, Union Members.

The fallout should be interesting. This is a large store on Broadway in downtown Manhattan - not normally the kind of place where basic Follett reindeer games fly well. Shoplifters are going to have a field day, for example.

Huge black eye for Follett.

I'm a student at NYU and I'm writing an article for our student newspaper, Washington Square News, regarding the changes in the Follett bookstore and how it has affected those whose jobs were eliminated. WoW ! Unreal. But let’s go to Orlando

NYU had way to many employees. Many of our new stores are required to retain rediculous levels of staff at the start. A good thing for rest of our stores.

More funds for them to use in Orlando!!
This company should be ashamed of themselves, cut people but keep the executive perks.

To the previous post- At the time the pirates board the ship, employees may be aware they are going to be thrown overboard. Some jump right away. Others work until the ship is completely plundered. However, there isn't enough information in the topic to know if this was the case. follett has shown all of us that it may have led people to believe they'll be kept on just before running them off of the gang plank. We don't have that information.
Some of the happiest people I know are follett alumnae. follett has earned the right to pilot empty ships.

How long have we been there? This is pretty standard after a large transition where typically the school requires us to keep a certain number of employees for a period of time with the understanding that they are to be looking for other positions with the school or company. These employees are made aware of this at the transition and if they don’t follow through on their end, this can be the result.

It will be happening pretty much everywhere.
Anything to save a buck should be their motto. Follett Values...... what a joke
