Oracle Corp. said Chief Executive Officer Mark Hurd is taking a leave of absence for unspecified health-related reasons, disclosing the move along with quarterly earnings on Wednesday afternoon. The software company made the announcement a day earlier than the results were scheduled to be released, after Bloomberg News contacted Oracle in relation to a story about the executive’s health. The company grappled for more than a year with one of the most harrowing dilemmas a corporation can face: when – and whether – to disclose a serious illness that has befallen a senior executive.

Echoing what others have said: Thank God he’s finally gone.

I still can’t believe how gullible Wall Street is to have not figured this guy out. A hatchet man without a plan....

The story seems to be very short on facts. It really didn't say anything that we didn't already know.

One more thing to use to blame for Oracle's demise. You never know, it might have been worse if Hurd had been better and more engaged!

My heart goes out to them, such a difficult, heart wrenching decision, NOT.

The most telling part of the article:

"Oracle has been blindsided by the success of cloud software entrants like Amazon.com Inc., and has been racing to catch up and woo new customers. For more than a year, Oracle has conducted layoffs and reorganizations in various business units. On Wednesday, the company reported that fiscal first-quarter revenue was little changed, trailing analysts’ projections."

It's time for all C-levels to go, sick or not

All the sudden MH was wearing a wig and people started to talk about chemo and cancer. He took him 18 months to finally step down.

DJ is probably rubbing his hands waiting for MH to die so he can finally take over as CEO

I don't MH's death will be required to replace him. There will probably a very quiet announcement that he has resigned soon, perhaps to go with the announcement of his successor.

Actually Balmer invested in a lot of things during his time at MS (azure, bing, etc.) which helped them enormously

I mean, this should be good news for Oracle, not a bad one. This execute had no clue about anything and literally had no direction at all.
All he did was lay off people and talk big about Oracle. His era was just like Steve Balmer's time as CEO of Microsoft. I hope Oracle brings a smart CEO who knows that they s—, but has the vision to make things better.
