Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

lack of appreciation

Anyone feeling like their leaders are treating them like an id–t nowadays since the company is going through a rough patch? I'm the same hard worker I was during the boom five years ago!

The culture at GM has been toxic for years and will never change.
Too many little dictators in HR, Supervisory and Management positions

Mary Barra and her cronies have no clue nor do they care about there employees, no matter what they try to spill to the media.

“We fired a bunch of people and then asked you to do more, faster without ever making any mistakes. Why are you complaining?”

Not my leader, as I'm apparently a highly valued asset in which they assign special assignments.

Ohhh, you meant GM leadership? Yeah, I was forced layoff with 3 job offers. Fantastic salary and benefits, and my new leader comes to me requesting help often.

I guess everything's great. Never had GM leadership wanting help, they knew it all. Clearly. So, N/A?

Man if give anything to see that email,
Guys form that professional union please!
All of you ladies and gentlemen definitely deserve good things and if that email is true well you have you're answer.
You are nothing more than inmates ,Mary is the evil nurse Rachet running the asylum, GM is a coo coo's nest. Please consider the protection you guys need.

There was an email that went around recently from a Director to a C-suite executive talking about keeping the inmates from running the prison. Perhaps they were referring to blocking a professional union? It definitely shows you how top leaders are thinking

Yes, I am also witness to GM shifting in their CAP review practices in an attempt to make older workers appear like they weren't achieving their objectives. Anyone else? Perhaps MB is preparing for the next round of layoffs targeting the older worker as a result of the over $1B in losses due to the UAW strike.

This is why ALL salaried folks need a union.
You will all benefit greatly if you have one.
Look at all the great talent the company has lost because of Mary and the CFO.
You guys are in a position to help yourself and earned to be protected, what is there to loose? The bottom line is you have a job today but at a whim it could be gone tomorrow, at least consider the idea of a professional union and work together, I loved working at GM and interaction with so many good people, both salaried and union. I sincerely wish all of you the very best, I miss it and always had fun at GM, I'm super bummed because I know it's not the same company anymore. The leadership is no good and it's not because the CEO is a woman it's because she is an absolute liar. Good luck to all my old friends and colleagues 😔

@11kfBJrZ-ffl, I've seen them give poor reviews to older employees who've had years of great reviews as an excuse to cut them for poor performance and cheat them out of a severance package.

This is not hypothetical.

Adding years onto your tenure means you are also five years older. Not sure of your age, but GM is really hung up on having a “young” image. Hopefully that doesn’t mean they are preparing to give you a poor review so they can have a legitimate reason to cut you loose at the next round without it looking like age discrimination. It’s amazing what five years can do to their opinion of you, if it puts you on the wrong side of 40.

GM isn't going through a rough patch.

They made $11 BILLION in profits last year.

They can't claim poverty as the reason they can't treat their employees fairly.

Yes, With the UAW contract issues, combined with an over abundance of leaders, a number of who have no staff reporting directly to them, leader jobs are on the chopping block now per an Executive Director that I spoke with. Leaders are you might expect irritable.
