Has anyone heard rumors of layoffs?

Remember the Four Cornerstones? PROFITS (FOR THE FAMILY) ARE ESSENTIAL!
Family wouldn't know how to feel ashamed and don't care what the jags running the company do.
As long as they get their dividends they're happy. They're all driving new luxury cars and former CEO's are bragging to other family owned businesses how they kept their family business profitable. What a joke.
Just shut it down!
Wow
They get rid of 20 plus employees, but still plan a conference in Orlando and hire another not needed VP.
Follett has really fallen and the family should be ashamed of what it has become.
How fun is it to go into work everyday wondering if it’s your last day.....
Loyalty means nothing to this company. It’s all about the dollars. If you make over $12 bucks an hour you cost too much.
But let still send the management to Orlando!!!!! Just think if you cut that out how many jobs could be saved !!!
I hope you all sleep well knowing this.
Seriously? Orlando, again?
People losing their jobs, hours cut & b—s— raises but let's go to Orlando for the conference?
WTAF?
Glad to see during all this firing that they still can afford to do the huge managers confidence in Orlando!! Unreal
The comment "Never saw it coming" stood out for me. It's not funny but the irony isn't missed here.
Denial is a luxurious place until the moment the fractured tower reaper visits. Own your destiny friends, prepare and leave while you have a job, especially if, like me, you are over 50.
As for those who think someone should have sued, good luck with that. Try staring a 30+ year separation agreement in the eye, then gamble the sure thing against a possible lawsuit with a lawyer getting 30-40%. Talk is cheap and the bills keep coming.
Lawsuit won't happen. There isn't a lawyer who'll touch an employees rights lawsuit unless there is a smoking gun memo/email/recording. Yes, technically speaking, workers over 40 are a protected class. Still, the brutal attacks against experience and age, 6 years ago, or so, resulted in nothing. No smoking guns. No precedent. Lawyers wouldn't touch cases unless you'd pay them up front.
Baker & Taylor should be next...
If they don’t cut chunks out of it within the month I’d be shocked
Anymore layoffs this week? Store level?
They cut the wrong half in Treasury.
Who made that decision?
Cut the one who had the most knowledge and was always helpful to the stores.
Great move PT.
Treasury was cut in half.
Age discrimination lawsuit coming for sure.

Yep getting rid of experience & knowledge. Expecting new associates to learn CT’s, hired in July, told its easy to place adoptions, & expecting them to do it all for spring rush, LOL. And it’s a new contract.
What dept. at HO?
Too bad you riffed someone with 29 years service. Ageism? Of course. Anyone still at Follett should be ashamed at what is going on.

Never saw it coming.
Yes. Some people were let go yesterday
*Restructuring *
Many good people let go again.
Follett has become a very sad company.
A few never saw it coming.
Start with eliminating the 12k a year car allowance that all home office senior execs get. In fact, it is a payout, they don't have to use it for a car. This is on top of stock bonuses etc.
Retail Marketing Specialist - Consumer Marketing Dept, but based at NYU (2015) was laid off today. This person worked at NYU pre-transition & was moved to this position approximately a year ago.
Anyone else hear of layoffs? At store levels?
Looks like today was the day. I was just let go from FSS.
I would drop any store under 2 million from our portfolio if the campus did not agree to Follett access. Too many campuses are in violation of our contracts when comes to the exclusivity clause. And most of these campuses have stores under 2 million with 90-98% of their sales coming from textbooks.
Follow the money and you will see where their values are. E-commerce and book fairs seem to be getting the funding lately.
Small stores have just as many task as larger stores. Small stores it is the manager completing those task, big stores manager oversees others doing those task. Makes no sense to cut cut cut staff in small stores.
Everyone and there Mother is going on strike. Why can't we? Because we are not public?
Everyone get out while you can! If you don’t think you should, take a look at the “Follett Values” that show up on your computer each morning. If you think any of those are still meaningful to the family or the big wheels at Follett, then keep drinking the Kool-aid. I’m just glad I don’t have to see that ever again.
Hey, it's time for the Family Dividends.
Something HAS to be cut.
Just remember, until stores start shutting down because the staff just walked away, nothing is going to change (think Atlas Shrugged).
If we can run the store with one ft, and 3 temps, maybe they can do it with 1 ft, and 2 temps. Then, why not 1 ft and 1 temp.
In case you didn't know, there are a bunch of people that are bulletproof. Family and people that the family really like that will never be cut even if getting rid of them would keep 3 people in stores, customer facing.
I work at one of those stores where I am the one part time employee. I can tell you that the manager is always stressed out because he can’t get his work done due to me being the only one there. I think decreasing staff hours is a horribly unhealthy thing to do. I doubt most of the higher ups could hack it in this situation.
Thoughts from the Sales Floor.
Way to go, Follett!
Once again here we are and no one ever learns so what do we have;
1) Not competitive enough with book prices & books not available to students when they need them. They don't all want to order online. If they did they go to Amazon unless they have FA.
2) Ludicrous GM policies/ decisions. ( see below)
3) Bad management in the upper tier. (Plenty has been said about this on various threads)
But, yeah, once again laying off & cutting hours for staff is your only answer.
How about you look at the real problems stores face? And, instead of sending a sh#t ton of $50 hoodies you ask the managers, "hey, what sells best in your store?"
Not all stores can sell the same merch due to the variance in demographics...time the higher ups realized this instead of making the workers pay for consistently bad marketing decisions & greed.
And, maybe there's too many chiefs and not enough indians but what do we know?
We're just the poor saps in the firing line mopping all the c-ap up from the fallout.
Good luck to anyone & everyone who gets caught up in this if/when it happens.
They should start by ‘restructuring’ all the top heavy RMs & gvps & vps, don’t need so many layers of top salaries & take away from those who keep the stores going.
Great. Bringing on Chegg is a fantastic idea. I'm sure the are not getting dumbed-down and losing pay, because we made a deal with the competition. Way to go.
Yes, actually I heard today. A source at the HO said that restructuring is coming to stores under $1M, and some positions will be moved to PT either right away or by attrition. No date was given but a ballpark is later in the fall.
