Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

More layoffs this week?

Does anybody know?

And I'm not looking for "this is Oracle, there will always be layoffs" kind of answers. I'm stressed out as it is, I'd just like to know if somebody has any actual info on what's going to happen this week. And hoping that the answer is nothing.

Oracle was a great place to work. I went through the lay-off process last year. Honestly I knew it would happen sooner or later. I went through many years seeing great talented people get Rifed. It is part of the big O culture. I lead a team of 12 developers and returned from vacation to find out half my team was let go. It's a numbers thing at the big O nothing personal. Now I look back and wish it happed sooner. Good thing is big O gives a nice severance package and within 7 weeks I recieved 3 offers and finally took position, so don't stress. It happens to the best of us, and I am certain there are people less talented than me still hanging on. If the process taught me anything it was simply this "Don't get ready stay ready".

“Isn't that SOP for any large organization?”

Not the ones that want to get the best IT related talent. Not just software dev people, but QA, automation, support (not ALL of it went offshore), project management.

I left Oracle for Google last year and haven't looked back. Timeline from submitting application to written offer was around 6 weeks.

Decent companies act fast on offers. I was told in the second interview that I could expect an offer, and sure enough they called me within an hour with the verbal. From that interview to first day was 27 calendar days, including a holiday weekend.

Don’t deal with foot dragging orgs with overly engineered talent acq processes. Those are the ones that have red tape on everything, trust me

This seems like a bs story but i also can agree with the poster. In good markets you can technically ask companies to move on faster because:
you are actively looking
you are interviewing with other companies too
Yes the posters calling it bs may also be right about some companies but it is highly possible to get offers so quickly.
reach out to hiring managers on linkedin directly. This gets your process started asap if your profile fits.
if job is local, most companies invite you to on site fairly quickly and if your interview goes well, they generally put up an offer super quick. I have seen companies extending offers pretty much within 24 hours to some candidates.
Like i said, everyone has a different experience than the other person. So it just depends on how to approach job search, how your interview goes and how you are informing companies about your other interview progress.
Maybe it took you guys longer because they looked at other candidates too or something in that regard. As i said, it just depends on the company and if the candidate is local.
If you apply to career websites the companies might take longer, so approach hiring managers on LinkedIn. A lot of managers accept resumes and pretty much initiate the process with the HR person they work with.

While the story about getting 3 job offers is great, I sincerely believe that it's a total BS.

I, too, got laid by Oracle. I, too, got offers after Oracle. But nothing happens in 2 weeks.

To get a job offer you need to go through all of the following steps

  • send resume/receive email
  • talk to talent acquisition
  • phone interview
  • invitation to on site interview
  • HR processing after your interview
  • receiving offer

I never saw any company go over those steps in a mere 2 weeks. The fastest company I saw did all of the above in 4 weeks. The fact that the previous poster is claiming that he found, not 1, but 3 companies to go over all of these steps in 2 weeks is an utter BS.

Do not worry, Oracle has great severance package, and you will have other offers in a month or two. But it won't happen in 2 weeks.

So i recently got laid off by Oracle after they laid off 80% of my team last year. I knew it was coming but of course waited for my RSUs and then due to big project in flight i thought i will not be laid off. But the opposite happened.
Now comes the bad part. After i got laid off, i lost motivation and felt betrayed after all the hard work i did. But then, we have to pay bills and i thought, i am a talented and hard working guy, so i took a week off and started interviewing.
Within 2 weeks i got three job offers and they are all way better than oracle. Also, amazing work and a company that valued my work.
So unless you have a ton of RSUs, you can start looking around. Dont stress yourself as Oracle does pay severence. And dont work too hard, just work normal 9-5 with dedication.
At the end of the day, your fate will be decided by someone who really has no clue of your talent, and they will lay you off.
1) does over work
2) wait for RSUs if you have a good number
3) start looking at other opportunities and leave Oracle as soon as you get something nice
4) work hard at a company where your talent is appreciated and where you can retire

I'm going to share with you my advice and experience with this issue, take it if it makes you feel better. First of all, I'm really sorry that you feel that way. The constant fear of losing one's job can do a lot of damage to your productivity, self esteem and mental health.

I was one of the "lucky ones" to be spared from OCI's macro layoff and now I really wish I had been layed off too. All the work I liked doing is gone, all the people I cared about gone too. Now I'm left with a deadend project surrounded by a–holes. I've had 5 different managers in 6 months.

I know we all get to feel nostalgic of how Oracle was great and of all the talented people we used to work with, but Oracle has shown us they don't care about their employees. Your boss is not your friend, your work is not valued and it will not save you from RIFs.

Don't be afraid of being layed off, I know it can feel like a low blow but it really does get better. When it happens, if it happens, you will be free of all the stress you have right now. Don't forget that you are a very talented person and that there are a lot of companies that will really value your knowledge and compensate you for your hard work. Be always on the look and always prepared. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

What org are you talking about? And what country? There's a lot of divisions in Oracle... Oracle Data Cloud for example, had a large round of layoffs last week on Monday. So if you're in that org, you're probably "fine" (until the next seemingly-every-quarter's round of layoffs).
Just make sure you're always in job search mode. (This comes from a place of being caught in the last round of layoffs.)
