Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

More layoffs to come or will it get calmer before the end of the year?

Will we see a continuation of layoffs in the next month or so or is it going to stop for a while?
In any case I believe that, if not now, we are in for more layoffs in the first months of 2020. Thoughts?

@11VtkV6j-1srx He wasn't telling a lie, technically.

Their exercise is out to shift "employees" from one financial bucket to another so they look more appealing to Wallstreet.

Nearly every employee I knew that were not retiring outright during a surplus round have come back on contract. The work does not disappear just because bean counters cross your name off their spreadsheet.

I remember one interview with our beloved CEO when he said he could basically run the company with 1/3 less of the employees, are you safe, no clue.

It's a yearly thing. I can't remember the pep talk but JD several years ago informed us AT&T was looking to trim its workforce by ~100k by EOY 2020. No one at the time listened to me yet here we are, looking down the gun at 2020. Expect many, many more surpluses. I'm not ready to go but I know there are better things out there -at my age I kind of have to...

"...so I assume C&E is about to get hit considering the nonexistent expense budget and recently announced $3B cut to our capital budget in 2020".

You understand there is still a $20B build plan, right? It's massive. They need people to execute that. I am not saying C&E won't be hit at all; if you're dead weight (and you know if you are or not), I would be nervous...if you're heavily involved in execution of capital build and valued, you're probably going to be fine.

Voluntary offer coming to management next week, off payroll by December 31st. Not sure if it’s across the board but ATO will be impacted so I assume C&E is about to get hit considering the nonexistent expense budget and recently announced $3B cut to our capital budget in 2020.

And I am sure that the contractors will be getting furloughs noticies in their stockings for Christmas. They wait to notify them after the quiet period starts.

There is usually something to get some folks off the books by EOY.

Elliott Management will be laying off managers, craft employees will not be surplussed. The CWA strike in the southeast has shown that the company is not prepared to perform required installation and management without union workers due to incompetent managers.

My Boss said that a "voluntary" offer would be emailed out shorty here in ATO as well. I'm way too young to retire but I'm going to take the money & run. This toxic culture has taken its toll, time to go.....

Boss said that a "voluntary" offer would be emailed out shorty here in ATO, and if they did not get 8% taking it, the wackings would come in January. He told us because he is going to take it and will be outtahere...

Sounds like a few orgs will offer voluntary before year end and when they don't get enough takers, which is a given unless they up the incentive, involuntaries happen in January .
