Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Industry Layoffs

I know Humana is a terrible company and treats its employees horribly, I am not disputing that, but....

Let's pull back for a look at the bigger picture. What's going on is by no means isolated to Humana.
Here's a quick, far from comprehensive sample of very recent layoffs. By no means is this the total, and it's still frightening.

You know it's real, and bad, when Monster.com writes an article called "Prepare For a Layoff in Healthcare"
https://www.monster.com/career-advice/article/prepare-for-a-layoff-in-healthcare

I've noticed the layoffs happen in phases, so the companies can report "2% Of Staff Layoffs" which sounds meaningless, but like Humana, that 2% is only one phase, and when you add all the layoffs, the total is getting much larger than 2%

I know many will be scared or angered by this, and my intention is not to scare or anger you, it is to show you that this is not isolated to Humana. I am in no way defending Humana's awful treatment of its workers, as layoffs can be handled well or poorly, a company does not need to treat people like dirt when they're laying them off, as Humana does.

It’s hard not to take a lay-off personally, but it related to the direction the company is planning on going and does your department Or skills fit in the direction. If it’s financial, program related or ability, that’s the bottom line. It’s sad, and I was part of the RIF, and it’s not me, it’s Humana. Which is to say, my role isn’t needed in the model they are trying to achieve. I’ve got a great skill set, I’ve learned lots from Humana working here for years, and I’m going to work on my resume this weekend....no company will pay as much as Humana does, they are generous with salaries, but I can easily say at an interview with a new employer what happened, and it doesn’t reflect poorly on me, my skills or what I offer

The companies have a huge income tax advantage also. Wonder if any of the CEO’s had a decrease in pay or no increase in pay after layoffs? I doubt it . BB makes 21 million a year not including stock options yet the number of providers who accept Humana has decreased every year for the past six years. That is what investors should be concerned about also.

These increasing layoffs are not isolated to the insurance, hospitals and medical services companies. I'm seeing layoffs being announced in all sectors of the economy including banking, manufacturers impacted by the tariffs, steel companies, retail stores, d–g store chains etc etc etc. We keep hearing how wonderful the economy is doing and it is for the investor class who have benefited from the stock market rises. Regular workers? Not so much.
