Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

You Really Want To Improve Associate Morale!?

The situation in our market is unbelievable. The job openings for the stores are triple what they used to be. We simply can’t get people to apply to jobs. Retailers all around us pay at least $2/hour more for entry level cashiers with no experience whatsoever. The workload for the existing associates get worse every week which drives up their stress which in turn drives up the turnover rate. It’s a descending spiral and no one is doing a thing about it. Corporate Lowe’s instituted a bonus program for people referring others to apply but what good is it if no one applies?

If Lowe’s wants to reverse this trend then the solution is clear. 1. Stop the constant changes every six months and f*cking decide on a store structure and stick with it. The never ending changes are wearing everyone down. The associates desperately need a break. 2. Raise your wages. And I don’t mean just for the new cashiers. Everyone needs a decent raise this year. 2 - 3% raises every year are a scam. They don’t even keep up with inflation. Marvin certainly doesn’t get a measly 2.5% raise when his pay is evaluated so stop treating us like fools and pay us fairly. 3. Stop constantly rolling out new programs! God, how many stinking apps do we need!? The level of micromanagement in the stores is crazy. If you don’t trust the managers then maybe you should do these jobs yourselves. We can’t get people to take the manager jobs because of the reputation of the positions. People are stepping down in our store every quarter because no one wants to put up with it. Some stores have manager positions that have been unfilled for months! Why do you suppose that is!?

There’s no way they’ll take any of these suggestions of course. The corporate management is far too arrogant to take advice from pissant associates like me. The changes will keep on coming and the situation in the stores will worsen. It’s inevitable. The one change Lowe’s won’t make is in reconsidering this disastrous strategy they’ve set their mind on.

Just wait until you see the results of Associate Opinion Survey, then you’ll get a real idea of how bad the situation really is.

I was joking bro. I've been the only associate in my department since May. I even went w/o an LTL for a month and did that job too. Our store is awful. But, hey, I took my bias training this week and was putting it to good use.

Corporate can pretend all it likes but at the end of the day it's a top-down hierarchy. They do not and cannot truly know what stores want. The only ones who can are the stores themselves. In what world does it make sense that people associates do not know and did not appoint or delegate claim to speak for them while having no clue what it's like to work on the floor? The whole structure is absurd.

Post by Less More sounds like someone who works at corporate. Without store and customers there is NO corporate. Would love to have you spend a month in constantly understaffed stores trying to runaround doing everything. Would love to see Corp employees Just doing what needs to be done-bring in carts, flat beds, helping out customers in other depts, code 50’s, doing returns for depts that hide in their own area, but if not done will hold everyone late at closing. AND would love if new Tech Center could use our break rooms as model (our break rooms are GROSS), But Again high paying Corp jobs would not exist if us store lackeys didn’t do our part at the revenue generating piece of the puzzle.

I think you have a vividness or perhaps a horns bias against corporate. You need training!

it has reached an all time low in our market. We have lost more associates in the last 90 days than we've added. Hell we have two stores with no store manager. The real issue is that this company has no plan for long term success and has been properly prepped to be fleeced.

As long as we have a strong economy then retail jobs everywhere are going to be hard to fill. When a recession hits then it will get easier. Most people looking for employment right now are simply not going to put up with a high stress environment like Lowe’s when they have lots of other job opportunities to choose from.

Our store has had a hiring event every months since August, not enough people applying, or staying.

Nice wishful thinking post. Lowe’s SR Mgmt allegiance is to shareholders, esp to Ackman & Pershing. Cost reductions to increase shareholder value will continue to be at associate expense &peril.

Do you think Lowe’s cares? If they did they wouldn’t let things get as bad as they have become. Marvin thinks Lowe’s money is his money and refuses to spend a dime on anything unless it’s at the corporate office.

Everyone knows that Lowe’s s—s, that’s why they have the Lowe’s mom announcements about the non-existing training and what a great place Lowe’s is to work.
