I was laid off in 2017 as part of the restructuring efforts set in place by MH. I can say that I am better off today as I was forced to learn new technologies and upgraded my skill sets. The severance package was nice and allowed me to tuck away a little extra in savings.
I was a top performer and have an excellent knowledge of the inner workings of the Oracle database. I now work for a company determined to take over Oracle's market share and relish every sale where we unplug an Oracle database. I am not alone as thousands of skilled employees went to AWS, Google, Sales Force, Workday etc... all of them chipping away at Oracle's market share in one form or another.
MH strategy was to focus on the bottom line rather than skill or quality and was happy to replace seasoned veterans that he referred to as "Mercenaries" with recent college grads. College grads are great when paired with veterans. This strategy insures the future health of the company. But a whole sale dumping your seasoned veterans and handing them over to the competition is not a smart move.
I hate to see Oracle in its current situation. Sales are flatlining and the Pivot to the cloud under the leadership of MH has not been successful. I hope that who ever replaces him sees people as resources and not an expense to be reduced. I hope the next leader has a vision and focuses on innovation. After a decade of a focus on cost cutting, and using the cloud as a thinly veiled excuse to cut talent, Oracle needs a visionary leader to innovate.
I hope Oracle's future is bright and they find a qualified leader. I think MH had the company headed in the wrong direction and after 10 years of leadership under MH we are starting to see the slump in sales.
